COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
San Diego IPA
The Sculpin IPA is a testament to our humble beginnings as Home Brew Mart. Founded in 1992, the Mart continues to be a catalyst for the San Diego brewing scene, setting the trend for handcrafted ales. Inspired by our customers, employees and brewers, the Sculpin IPA is bright with aromas of apricot, peach, mango and lemon. Its lighter body also brings out the crispness of the hops. This delicious Ballast Point Ale took a Bronze Medal at the 2007 Great American Beer Festival in the Pro Am category. The Sculpin fish has poisonous spikes on its fins that can give a strong sting. Ironically, the meat from a Sculpin is considered some of the most tasty. Something that has a sting but tastes great, sounds like a Ballast Point India Pale Ale.

From the tap poured an amber color with a good amount of head. Hoppy flavor with a lasting finish.

UPDATED: AUG 29, 2012 A really nice IPA, but for some reason it tasted a little bit thin to me. But overall, pretty strong.

picked up this beer when i was exploring the many unknown beers to me out there i tried many but this one stood out my new absolute favorite beer in the world. At 8 bucks for 22oz its pretty pricey though.aroma is full of citrus and it makes me excited on whats to come, hints of peach and mango are definately there as the bottle indicates on the label.

Nice pour, very foamy, nice aroma as well, lures you in like the song of the siren. Smell floral and citrus. Very murky, surprisingly murky. Taste is a hop bomb, torches the tongue, sweet, floral, and citrus hops, very well hopped IPA, not alot of backbone to it, but as an IPA this is excellent, ranks right up there with the best due to the hop profile and full flavor. Very well done, one of the best IPAs out there. I had this once before and was not that impressed but I think it was old, this is fresh, and it is nice.

Bottle courtesy of my father-in-law. Thanks Nuriel! The pour is a bright murky orange with some gold and amber colors dancing around. There is a big fluffy pure white head that leaves very elegant lacing on the glass. The nose is super high pitched with lots of C-hops and their citrus zest aromas. The flavors are intensely bitter with lots of citrus vest, grapefruit and fresh pine needles. The malts are so light and easy on the palate that the hops build a deep flavor base that only intensifies as I keep drinking. The balance is out of whack, but in a way I love. You can tell there were some sugars hanging around once upon a time, but they’ve all left town and the floral bitters are running a one horse town. I love this beer.

Pours clear light gold with almost white head that quickly diminishes. So fragrant, some floral with notes of honey and peaches; a bit of resinous hops. Taste starts fruity sweet, nice and crisp. Bitter hops finish, but just the right amount of bitter. So refreshing and a fabulous warm weather beer.

Received in trade from jtrockchalk, thanks for the opportunity! Pours a crystal clear golden with a tinge of orange. Surprisingly light in color. Smallish white head dissipates quickly. Smells of hops. Pine, resin, citrus, perfume, floral, some malty sweetness in the background. Taste is malty sweet with a citrus hop punch. Bitterness hits the tongue up front, finishes dry with a resinous almost mineral aftertaste that makes your mouth salivate for another sip. Medium body, resinous sticky mouthfeel, crisp carbonation. Lots of bitter hop punch and a surprising amount of sweet malt. Great Ipa, but I can’t say that I enjoyed it as much as some others I’ve tried.

Bottle courtesy of Pollack. Light golden hazy pour with a small white cap of foam. Didn’t leave much lace. Aroma was subtle hints of tropical fruits, mango and peach. Delightfully fresh smelling. Tasted of light fruit, more bitter than anything else, incredibly smooth and soft on the palate. Light fruity finish, bittersweet. Medium to full body, carbonation light. Overall a good IPA, comparable to a 2HA but lacked something to make it great.
