San Diego IPA
The Sculpin IPA is a testament to our humble beginnings as Home Brew Mart. Founded in 1992, the Mart continues to be a catalyst for the San Diego brewing scene, setting the trend for handcrafted ales. Inspired by our customers, employees and brewers, the Sculpin IPA is bright with aromas of apricot, peach, mango and lemon. Its lighter body also brings out the crispness of the hops. This delicious Ballast Point Ale took a Bronze Medal at the 2007 Great American Beer Festival in the Pro Am category. The Sculpin fish has poisonous spikes on its fins that can give a strong sting. Ironically, the meat from a Sculpin is considered some of the most tasty. Something that has a sting but tastes great, sounds like a Ballast Point India Pale Ale.

Strangely cheesy nose with only a small amount of hoppy freshness coming through. Pours steady gold with a fluffy beige head. The flavour is where it comes into its own - spicy, peppery hops with some melon, some kiwi, some candy and some lemon peel. A bot of paprika and coriander round it off and a big fat buttery mouthfeel provides the balance. Very nice.

golden ale with hues of brown and orange. appealing aroma mainly of pollen, wood and citrus grapefruit that is represented exactly in the taste. some ivy as well, with a moderate body and powerful alcohol that burns or stings a little in the mouth. enjoyed only slightly chilled.

Very much like Firestone walker Union Jack. Yummy! I could easily drink a 6 pack....wish I could get this locally. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

One of the cleanest IPA’s on the market. Bottle pours a white fluffy head that sticks around for a bit, and laces well. The flavor is citrus fruit followed with a crisp hop finish. For a 7% ABV IPA this beer drinks like a session beer. It has great drinkability and will kick your d!#k in the dirt if you drink too many. Believe the hype and go buy a six pack.

You can’t go wrong with this IPA. Great from start to finish. The citrus is well balanced with the hop. Use this as your standard for comparison.

The crystal clear amber color. The nose was the one and only thing fell a tad short on this awesome brew. Loved the taste bud killing bitterness! No words can describe the hop flavor, perfect! ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle from BrewDog Birmingham; clear amber pour thin white head glorious hop aroma at pour, taste doesn’t disappoint tropical hop with mango and citrus, perfect level of bitterness, decent body quite viscous mouthfeel, quite high ABV for an IPA.

Best before May 16, 2013.
Appearance: Pay attention other breweries, this is exactly how an IPA should look. The body is a crystal clear amber, not too dark like many other IPAs, showing off carbonation throughout lazily floating to the thick and creamy white head that takes up 1/3 of the glass on the pour. The retention is average, but it settles into a creamy thick coating.
Aroma: Hops, hops, hops. The aroma is dominated by the hops, but hints only slightly at bitterness. The aroma is strong of oranges and grapefruit in good balance.
Taste: This is balanced beautifully, the malts are mild on the intro and provide a pleasant backing for the flavorful orange hops with mild grapefruit bitterness. The flavor lingers for a bit of oranges then grapefruit.
Palate: Medium bodied, oily texture, with hints of carbonation.
Overall: World class IPA, this is the epitome of a West-Coast IPA. Everyone needs to try this, it’s balanced beautifully and very drinkable. Great beer.
