COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
San Diego IPA
The Sculpin IPA is a testament to our humble beginnings as Home Brew Mart. Founded in 1992, the Mart continues to be a catalyst for the San Diego brewing scene, setting the trend for handcrafted ales. Inspired by our customers, employees and brewers, the Sculpin IPA is bright with aromas of apricot, peach, mango and lemon. Its lighter body also brings out the crispness of the hops. This delicious Ballast Point Ale took a Bronze Medal at the 2007 Great American Beer Festival in the Pro Am category. The Sculpin fish has poisonous spikes on its fins that can give a strong sting. Ironically, the meat from a Sculpin is considered some of the most tasty. Something that has a sting but tastes great, sounds like a Ballast Point India Pale Ale.

Easily one of the best IPA:s out there. Pours light orange amber, slightly cloudy, with a medium white to off-white head. It doesn’t look very spectacular, but then again if the looks are the weakest part of a beer, then I’m good with that. Nose is tropical fruits (apricot, mango), citrus and grapefruit with a very strong hop presence. Hard to tell, but maybe cascade, amarillo, some nelson sauvin? I don’t know, but it’s definitely rich, fruity hops. Flavour is immediately bitter with a nice pungent quality. The bitterness increases through the sip until gently settling into a long and very enjoyable finish that mellows out but stays with you for a long time. Body is medium with a creamy quality and a somewhat lively, refreshing carbonation.

This was my first time ordering online and none of the hop forward beers I purchased came with any dates that I could tell, disappointing. This one is over the hill. Nice golden pear tone, thinner head that recedes to a minimal cap but then retains throughout Nose is a bit subdued, mostly citrus but truly difficult to discern, I have an easier time smelling the glass that I poured it into. The character isn’t nearly as muted as I would’ve guessed by the smell - all that citrus - tangerine, grapefruit, abstract bitter... clearly outdated though. Mouthfeel is thinner than I would’ve expected but seems appropriate for this particular brew, carbonation is still spot on. Overall, I guess I’ll just wait for a good trade opportunity or a vacation to give this one a real review.

My sister got me this beer for my birthday and she got 2 others. This is by far the best one. Great taste and it was straight from the brewery so that helped it out. Definitely recommend it

Wonderful hoppy aroma, with a hint of tropical fruit...golden color with a hint of red/orange...very sharp hoppy taste right from the get-go, hints of mango/pineapple, splash of orange...super-slick going down, with a monstrous aftertaste...an outstanding IPA!

On draft. Pours crystal clear bright orange with a nice white head. Amazing hoppy aroma. Flavor is strong citrus, mango, and peach. Lighter body than the flavor and aroma let on. Great great beer.

0.65l bottle from BrewDog webshop. This one pours a golden orang-ish - almost glowing - bod with a nice medium sized egg shell-colored head. The aroma is lovely fruity with a good amount of piny hops. It’s really intense peachy with mango and a kiwi-like sweetness. Also something here that reminds me of summer-barbecue. Lovely and fresh aroma. A fantastic smooth and almost creamy mouthfeel that really sets the good old taste buds in action here. Lots of that lovely fruitiness in the aroma follows the flavors. It’s peachy and with pine cones, a fresh summer strawberry tone, honey and the finish is perfectly balanced between hoppy-bitter, passion fruity goodness and malt sweetness. Goes on and on in the aftertaste. A really nice one this. 01.02.2012

22 FL.OZ bottle. Golden color small inconsistent head. Nice citrusy hop aroma, same in the mouth, super dry finish, and balanced bitternes. Very drinkable, it could be a session beer although the consistent abv.
