San Diego IPA
The Sculpin IPA is a testament to our humble beginnings as Home Brew Mart. Founded in 1992, the Mart continues to be a catalyst for the San Diego brewing scene, setting the trend for handcrafted ales. Inspired by our customers, employees and brewers, the Sculpin IPA is bright with aromas of apricot, peach, mango and lemon. Its lighter body also brings out the crispness of the hops. This delicious Ballast Point Ale took a Bronze Medal at the 2007 Great American Beer Festival in the Pro Am category. The Sculpin fish has poisonous spikes on its fins that can give a strong sting. Ironically, the meat from a Sculpin is considered some of the most tasty. Something that has a sting but tastes great, sounds like a Ballast Point India Pale Ale.

Pours light orange with a huge hop nose. A dry spicy hop flavor but well balanced. An excellent IPA. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Now THIS is an IPA. Iíve had this both bottled and on tap, and I think I prefer it on tap. It pours a clear, golden orange color with a light, dense, white head that leaves some pretty sticky lacing. The nose is fantastic. Barley, caramel malts, and robust, sweet, piney hops all surface in the aroma, making for one of the best-balanced noses of any IPA I can think of. As crisp as the hops are in this, it as an incredibly smooth moth feel - so smooth that itís hard to sufficiently describe. The potency of the hops really control the palate of the beer, but are extremely well-balanced with the caramel malts. Sweet and slightly fruity, dried apricots are the fist thing that come to mind, yet the fruitiness of the beer is only obvious if you search it out. This is an extremely fine-tuned beer. It has a grainy sweet finish with a hop presence that echoes the delightful experience you taste as it enters the mouth. Itís like the flavor persists into the finish as-is. This is surely one of the best IPAs ever. Smooth, supple, sweet (but not too sweet), hoppy (but not bitter), and with absolutely no jagged edges. Good job, Ballast Point!

Had at forum shops in Ceasars in las vegas. 6.75 for a twelve ounce. Expensive but in Vegas. Big floral nose. not real bitter on ront end. Excellent hop balance. Very light to non exsistant malt profile, but perfect for an IPA style. would drink all day, but too much $$$$. great brew.

Crazy good ipa. Citrus, fruity hops with a solid malty backbone. Flavor is dry, with a great bitter aftertaste.

Nice looking slightly hazy orange with decent white head. Aroma is dominated piney/citrusy hops. Flavors are much the same as the aroma. Firm malt body and aggressive, but pleasant, hop bitterness. Great example of a West Coast IPA.
