3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20
Pours a very light orange color with minimal head. Upon closer inspection there is a slight haze and I can see some extremely small particles floating around. Aroma is citrus and pine and I also detect some tropical fruits. There is a lot going on here. Taste is similar to the aroma with citrus being well represented along with some pine notes. The body is light to medium and the finish is very dry with a lingering bitterness. This would be fantastic on a hot summer day and what you would expect from a West Coast IPA. One of the better IPAs I have had.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
UPDATED: DEC 22, 2012 Glowing orange with a white head. Not a lot of big flavors. touch of citrius. crisp and hoppy, somewhat biter. Very smooth abd drinkable. Underwhelmed by this one, not sure what the big deal is. Yes it is a very good IPA but nothing about it really stands out. The flavor is very good but there is not much of it.

3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20
Rating the nitro version since Iíve had regular more times than not. Pours a nice bubbly orange with pillowy white head. Aroma is muted with the nitro but still slightly cat piss centric and some pine. Taste is velvet smooth with a great hop bitterness, peach, orange, rind, lemon and grain. Overall, another solid IPA.

4.4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20
12oz bottle from Southern Season. Iíve sought this for quite a while, so Iíll try to be reasonable. Pours orangish dark golden with fluffy head that laces well. Aroma is heavy citrus and a hint of pine hops. Taste is big fresh earthy punchy hops with tons of citrus flavor. Clean crisp finish. Dare I say it - this reminds me of Pliny. Nothing spectacular, just an excellent IPA lacking in flaws.

3.7 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20
UPDATED: DEC 22, 2012 Re-rated: Iíve enjoyed this a few times more since my initial rating. I do like it better, and perhaps appreciate the velvety mouthfeel and smoothness of it more than I did. 1st rating: What am I missing here? Sorry, but I was just underwhelmed by this beer. Is it a good IPA? Yup. Maybe even in my top ten...I will have to try a few more at different sessions. But I just canít see why this beer is rated so incredibly highly. I didnít think it had much of a nose, the head was nothing special, and the taste was characterized by smooth but very uncomplicated hops. A very dry and lingering bitter aftertaste, which is okay. I just donít see what all the fuss is about. I donít even consider this the best IPA from San Diego...I find Alesmithís IPA significantly more impressive, and probably Green Flashís West Coast IPA a tad better.

4.3 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 18/20
Bottle from Asahiya. Lovely pine and citrus hop combo in the nose, also tobacco, and light sweet fruit. Hazy orange straw color, creamy off-white head, and great lacing. Hop shock initial nearly precludes any initial assessment; bittering hops snap the palate to attention; final hop burn slowly simmers and fades over several minutes, and even after that lingers on the sides of the tongue.Medium heavy body. A true feast for the palate and the nose. A great IPA.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle from Mcgee Liquor in Tucson. Clear gold pour with a short white head leaving moderate lace. Nose is pine, ganja and some caramel. Medium body with moderate, fine carbonation with a creamy mouth feel. Pine, ganja, caramel, lemon and a hint of orange, pineapple and ethanol. Finish is more bitter, with grapefruit and dendelion. Nice balance for a West Coast IPA, but a bit hot. Sorry, but this one just doesnít stand out to me.

4.5 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 20/20
Pours into glass a hazy amber/orange, with minimal white head that fizzes away within a minute. Almost no lacing.
Aromas of grapefruit, pineapple, citrus, hops. Very pleasant.
Really pleasant, heavenly mouthfull of citrus hops, grapefruits, pineapple all swirling on the tongue complimenting each other. With a medium body, this is good stuff.
Fantastic. A great example of the great West Coast IPA. Look forward to more.

4.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20
UPDATED: JUN 15, 2013 Appearance: not much head at all, but it has a nice bright orange-gold appearance, and the little head it does have leaves good lacing. Aroma - lots of orange and grapefruit citrus, some pineapple, and lots of sweet caramel malts. Flavor - mmmm! Nice grapefruit and orange profile with a solid malt backing and some hops at the end. Very well-balanced. I was expecting something a little heavier and sweeter from the aroma, but this isnít a sugar-bomb at all. This is really easy to drink, yet full of flavor - doesnít whack you over the head with hops, but they are there. What a refreshing IPA. This would be even better in the summer. The more I taste, the yummier it gets - lovely citrus at first, and then the subtlest of hops and malt to complete it. Nomnom. The taste and palate of this are just perfect! Enjoyed slightly beyond the "best by" date - wonder how this would be fresh? JUNE 2013 UPDATE: Now enjoying this on a hot summer day. Every bit as good as the first one I had late last year. Itís fresh, but it smells and tastes the same as I remember my slightly expired one did. If this beer had a slightly more impressive appearance and more floral, balanced aroma, itíd easily rank as the top overall single IPA in my book. As it is, the palate and taste are definitely #1 for me, and thatís what matters most, IMO.
