San Diego IPA
The Sculpin IPA is a testament to our humble beginnings as Home Brew Mart. Founded in 1992, the Mart continues to be a catalyst for the San Diego brewing scene, setting the trend for handcrafted ales. Inspired by our customers, employees and brewers, the Sculpin IPA is bright with aromas of apricot, peach, mango and lemon. Its lighter body also brings out the crispness of the hops. This delicious Ballast Point Ale took a Bronze Medal at the 2007 Great American Beer Festival in the Pro Am category. The Sculpin fish has poisonous spikes on its fins that can give a strong sting. Ironically, the meat from a Sculpin is considered some of the most tasty. Something that has a sting but tastes great, sounds like a Ballast Point India Pale Ale.

A smell of fruits, a hint of alkohol with a nice bitterness. A really solid brew.

On tap in Chicago-- Pours clear golden with thin white head. Nose is skunk and mint. Aromas are clearly weed, grass, citrus. Oily texture, average carbonation. Long bitter finish. Very great stuff! ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle (22oz $7): I get mostly pine and not much citrus taste from this, Then there is a slow build to a fair amount of bitterness that lingers and almost turns to metallic tasting. Good, but not going to be a regular.

Great California IPA perfectly balanced hops! One of the best I have had! And the grapefruit is better!

Flaska från SB. Orange färg med vitt skum. Doftar grapefrukt, granbarr och citrus. Smakar mango, grapefrukt, granbarr och aprikos. Torr avslutning med en alldeles lagom beska.

Bottle to tulip. No detailed notes on this one - good, bright, citrus-y IPA with a bitter finish.

Can, slightly cloudy golden amber, decent creamy white head. Aroma pale malt and juicy citrus. Flavor is creamy orange and salty spruce, with citrus rind bitter finish. Yet another classic west coast IPA profile, but the palate on this is nice and rich, carbonation just short of bright.

One I’ve been waiting to try for some time. News of a fresh batch hitting Perth and off I go! At just on cool and into a snifter it goes. Hazy, deep orange with a radiance that is embellished by the first sun we’ve seen here in weeks. Head is a soapy mess of white that daubs a thick lace. Nose is on the drier side initially just ceding pine and resin but then from out the blue comes soft and rounded, ripe tropical fruits like guava and mango, honeydew and cantaloupe. There is a touch of banana in there too to make it seemingly sticky. On the palate it is delicate, quaint, and almost mysterious. Softly spoken but there is ample going on. Supple fruit like the nose placed at intricate intervals on the palate so that it pops just enough to keep you guessing. There is a touch of honey upfront, clean, amongst some biscuity malt. No interest in offering up the alcohol it drinks like a 4.0 per center. Creamy in mouthfeel with a resinous, fruity aftertaste that lasts. Bitterness matches the fruit and balances the malt. As it warms there is a fruity sweetness that lasts and contrasts the resin and pine of the nose. This is just simple session stuff. So softly spoken and intriguing, but forgetting that it is just a damn good ale. Surprising!!! (12fl.Oz, code SC726, The Liquor Shed, Jandakot)

A short but prounced head. Sweet pine nose. Herbal sweet pine with a tangerine kick and a lingering grapefruit finish.
