San Diego IPA
The Sculpin IPA is a testament to our humble beginnings as Home Brew Mart. Founded in 1992, the Mart continues to be a catalyst for the San Diego brewing scene, setting the trend for handcrafted ales. Inspired by our customers, employees and brewers, the Sculpin IPA is bright with aromas of apricot, peach, mango and lemon. Its lighter body also brings out the crispness of the hops. This delicious Ballast Point Ale took a Bronze Medal at the 2007 Great American Beer Festival in the Pro Am category. The Sculpin fish has poisonous spikes on its fins that can give a strong sting. Ironically, the meat from a Sculpin is considered some of the most tasty. Something that has a sting but tastes great, sounds like a Ballast Point India Pale Ale.

Can. Just yum. Smells awesome, tastes awesome. Wonderful pithy bitterness, subtle honey sweetness, tidy balance. Feels properly put together and delivers on all the tasting note promises. Those 7 abvís go unnoticed. Iím off to enjoy the rest of it.

Lotís of licorice in the aroma. Fresh. Thick, oily mouth-feel. Distinctive bitterness that remains in the mouth for a very long time. Reminds me a lot of Ballast Point Fathom, I probably wouldnít be able to tell the difference between the two in a blind test. Good stuff nonetheless.

Nice ipa, kinda cheapened by the massive buyout. That doesnít take away from the fact that this is a great beer. Juicy and delicious. Will get again.

Wow! Probably the bitterest IPA I've had to date, but boy is it good. Great aroma, cloudy for an IPA but very sexy looking. Really great IPA. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Pours awesome white dense head, golden and sparkling. Tropical and resinous aroma packed with hops. Light bodied and extremely refreshing, coats your tongue with oily hops. Long complex bittereness, this is delicious!

Pours a clear, amber and gold with a strong white/off-whit head, full lacing. Aroma is strongly fruity, grapefruit being the distinct note. Flavor is heavy bitter with a surprising sweetness (moderate). Mouthfeel is oily but relatively light, with a pleasantly bitter finish. Overall, the most enjoyable and well crafted IPA I have yet tasted.

355ml bottle. Big white head, quite golden color. Aroma is roses, hops, flowers, peach ice tea, hint of wood and brandy. Bitter flowery taste. A likeable perfume.

Bottle thanks to Rian (Thirstybird). Slightly hazy gold with a white head, leaving plenty of lacing. Pungent aroma of sweet fruits, pine and dough. Carbonation is smooth and natural. Flavour is beautifully complex with sweet juicy malts, bitter citrus fruits, a little peach and a lovely resinous, slightly oily swallow. I have to visit San Diego at some point!

The beer that showed me the world of craft beers. Really well balanced and the citrus hop aroma is the best. Every time I try this beer, this beer always impress me. I had many great IPAs, but this one is definitely the best.
