San Diego IPA
The Sculpin IPA is a testament to our humble beginnings as Home Brew Mart. Founded in 1992, the Mart continues to be a catalyst for the San Diego brewing scene, setting the trend for handcrafted ales. Inspired by our customers, employees and brewers, the Sculpin IPA is bright with aromas of apricot, peach, mango and lemon. Its lighter body also brings out the crispness of the hops. This delicious Ballast Point Ale took a Bronze Medal at the 2007 Great American Beer Festival in the Pro Am category. The Sculpin fish has poisonous spikes on its fins that can give a strong sting. Ironically, the meat from a Sculpin is considered some of the most tasty. Something that has a sting but tastes great, sounds like a Ballast Point India Pale Ale.

One of the best "standard" IPAs out there. The clear amber color makes it really nice to look at. The aromas is well balanced between ctirus hops, malt and fruit. The finish is long without becoming bitter.

tap - Pours gold with a small, lingering white head. It has a pleasant citrus hop aroma and a similarly citrusy, heavily hopped flavor. Itís medium bodied and has a long, crisply bitter finish.

Draft at Mekong. Pours orange with an inch of white foam. Lots of pine cone on the nose. Pure pine sol on the tongue that's balanced by some nice hop bitterness. It's a big west coast beer but nicely done. It doesn't feel like a hop bomb. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Poured a crystal clear mid-amber with 5mm of creamy dense foam that retained well and laced well as rings and web. Carbonation moderate to high with medium sized bubbles. Aroma nicely hoppy - very piny plus hints of citrus/grapefruit and hints of tropical fruits/pineapple. Taste is very piny plus with a quite strong, nice citric and pine bitterness plus a light caramel malt; alcohol well hidden; well balanced. Medium body. Crisp, fresh and dry with grapefruit plus hints of pine on the finish. A good IPA.

12 oz. bottle. Pours a clear gold color with a finger-thick white head. Aroma is strong fruit - mango and apricot. Medium body, taste leans more to the hops but isnít overpowering, balanced well. Finish is a little dry with more of the fruit character coming through. Well done!

Pours orange with medium head. Aroma is fruity, floral, light soap, sourness, berries, spices. Taste is bitter, flowery, spicy, light pepper, tropical fruits, hay, dry grass, some light sweetness. Everything in aroma and in taste like IPA should have. Nice balanced beer! Superb!

BB unknown? from DMís. We all known what it looks and tastes like so i really donít have to ramble. On this sample itís a good IPA, it does everything that itís supposed to do. Big standout is the drinkability with that 7% well hidden.
