COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
San Diego IPA
The Sculpin IPA is a testament to our humble beginnings as Home Brew Mart. Founded in 1992, the Mart continues to be a catalyst for the San Diego brewing scene, setting the trend for handcrafted ales. Inspired by our customers, employees and brewers, the Sculpin IPA is bright with aromas of apricot, peach, mango and lemon. Its lighter body also brings out the crispness of the hops. This delicious Ballast Point Ale took a Bronze Medal at the 2007 Great American Beer Festival in the Pro Am category. The Sculpin fish has poisonous spikes on its fins that can give a strong sting. Ironically, the meat from a Sculpin is considered some of the most tasty. Something that has a sting but tastes great, sounds like a Ballast Point India Pale Ale.

Bottle to English pint glass. Pours slightly hazy light amber. Two finger head, nice lacing. Aroma of mango, apricot, lemon zest. Taste is very hoppy bitter with nice light sweetness for balance. Medium-full body, lightly carbonated, slightly sticky mouth feel. Finishes with a complex symphony of spruce, apricot, melon, earthy herbs. This is a very fine west coast IPA. It’s worthy of it’s 100 rating.

Citrus and pine nose. Beautiful golden color. Lingering bitter finish. Very tart. Malts come through at the end.

Bottle picked up at GBBF 2014. Been looking forward to this. Pours a clear amber with a white head. A fairly light aroma of grass, caramel, a little veg funk and orange. Light to medium body, medium carbonation. Some stickiness to it, a little veg funkiness, orange, pine, lemon, caramel, light woody bitterness but still quite sweet overall. It’s tasty.

Good Beer! Enjoyed this as a guest draught on the ’8th line’ at Lucky’s Lounge in Boston. Hoppy, lovelly aroma and great depth of flavour, good with food. Not in my top five yet...needs more investigation, but I would definately drink this again. Good Job!

Can- pours yellow with an off white head. I taste all the fruits that are advertised. This is by far my favorite IPA my lips ever touched. Smooth and subtle touch to the end. Great taste. 7% too win win win

I will need to review this again one day when I have a fresh bottle. This bottle was about 2 months old. Delicious though. Fruitiness from hops and nice malt backbone, with a nice snap at the very end.

2 week old bottle poured into a Duvel tulip. The beer pours a mostly clear, brightly colored amber with a thick white head that slowly shrinks to a finger and leaves lots of lacing. This beer is beautiful. Immediately I smell tropical fruit aromas as I pour. Upon further inspection I can detect bright mango, pineapple, and bubblegum. Real nice and fruity. When finally tasting the beer I first note an immediate piney hop bitterness that is quickly met with the tropical flavors detected in the aroma. The resinous qualities of this beer come back just as quickly as they faded and mix with a somewhat restrained caramel malt. Very nice. The mouthfeel is nice and full and the beer clings to your tongue and mouth. It is still refreshing despite it’s body, and I could sesh this beer, at least for a 6 pack. Overall this is a fantastic IPA and worth seeking out, fresh if possible.

Flaska bishops marina med päronen - doftar otroligt friskt. Mörkgul med vitt skum och lätt dimmig. Tydlig men behaglig beska. Smakar lite blodapelsin. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
