COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
San Diego IPA
The Sculpin IPA is a testament to our humble beginnings as Home Brew Mart. Founded in 1992, the Mart continues to be a catalyst for the San Diego brewing scene, setting the trend for handcrafted ales. Inspired by our customers, employees and brewers, the Sculpin IPA is bright with aromas of apricot, peach, mango and lemon. Its lighter body also brings out the crispness of the hops. This delicious Ballast Point Ale took a Bronze Medal at the 2007 Great American Beer Festival in the Pro Am category. The Sculpin fish has poisonous spikes on its fins that can give a strong sting. Ironically, the meat from a Sculpin is considered some of the most tasty. Something that has a sting but tastes great, sounds like a Ballast Point India Pale Ale.

Beautiful copper colored IPA with great head. The hops are robust but like most West Coast Beers, the finish is clean and has a nice citrus end note. Great drinking beer with friends.

On tap - nice golden copper color and good head retention. Aroma - nice balance of citrus and some sweet malt. Taste - very nice hop profile, mostly citrus and some pineapple. Palate - easy drinking beer. Goes down very smooth with no aftertaste. Overall - great tasting IPA. First beer from BP and very satisfied!

I was excited to find this one. Had to head up north about 3 hours; they don't sell ballast point where I live. Great clean aroma of earthy pine/citrus hops and a good amount of malt. Surprisingly fizzy, light golden color with a small, active white head. Tastes outstanding. Hoppy enough for true ipa fans but drinkable enough for novices to the style. Citrus hops mesh wonderfully with a malt backbone that components the hops without overwhelming them with sweetness. Overall very well crafted and well balanced IPA. A must have for all fans of the style. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

On tap. Copperish orage color with a modest head. Fruit bouquet of aromas present: grapefruit jumps out as well as pineapple, melon and mango. Nice bitterness on the palate and the grapefruit stands up really well. Also a little bit of resin/pine hop flavor undertones as well. Fairly well-balanced but the hops definitely shine through. World-class IPA for sure.

On tap at Lord Hobo, Boston. Pours orange with lasting off-white head. Fruit hoppy aroma with hints of pine. Citrus, fruit and hops in flavor, well balanced. Lasting bitter finish.

Une bonne IPA, une base savoureuse, un fort accent d’amarillo. Bonne bière mais notation exagéré.

Solid West Coast Single IPA here. Not much to be said about a beer with 2050 ratings except it’s damn good!
