San Diego IPA
The Sculpin IPA is a testament to our humble beginnings as Home Brew Mart. Founded in 1992, the Mart continues to be a catalyst for the San Diego brewing scene, setting the trend for handcrafted ales. Inspired by our customers, employees and brewers, the Sculpin IPA is bright with aromas of apricot, peach, mango and lemon. Its lighter body also brings out the crispness of the hops. This delicious Ballast Point Ale took a Bronze Medal at the 2007 Great American Beer Festival in the Pro Am category. The Sculpin fish has poisonous spikes on its fins that can give a strong sting. Ironically, the meat from a Sculpin is considered some of the most tasty. Something that has a sting but tastes great, sounds like a Ballast Point India Pale Ale.

From a bottle. Pours a hazy orange. Aromas of pine and grapefruit. Medium body. Pine and grapefruit flavors with a nice bitter aftertaste. Very balanced and drinkable. One of my favorites.

Amazing aroma of pine citrus and mango. Complex hop flavors intertwine over a lighter malt profile that managed to provide perfect balance. I prefer this on tap as opposed to the bottle.

A great IPA, with orange and nectarine above floral notes, balanced with a blast of hops. A creamy and balanced west coast offering that is not over hopped. On par with Stone IPA.

Pours clear golden with decent head. Aroma of pine, grapefruit, citrus, some sulphur. Very bitter, lacking malt to balance the high amount of hops. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

bottle, from the shelves at the bizarre and amazingly stocked thirsty beershop in singapore. thirsty doesn’t offer glasses to pour their bottles into so i can only guess that this was some variety of amber, anyways the label was pretty; potent aroma from the neck of the bottle - loads of grapefruit and pine forest floor with hints of toffee apple; great big whack of bitterness, zesty citric tang with plenty of crushed biscuit sweetness. extremely moreish

Bottle. Clear copper gold with a thick, foamy, off-white head that lasts and laces. Aromas of pine resin, biscuit, grapefruit, light mango and peach. Flavor is pine, biscuit, grapefruit, mango, and light orange zest. Medium bodied, smooth with a dry finish. Lingering tropical fruit and pine.

Mooie koperkleur. Mooie dikke schuimkraag. Ruikt naar citroen/sinasappel/grapefruit. Bittere citrussmaak die lang blijft hangen. Heerlijk bier dat me nieuwsgierig maakt naar andere bieren van deze brouwerij.

courtesy of fiulijn - hazy reddish-orange beer with a poor head retention; solid aroma of oranges and grapefruit; full-bodied, juicy and very tasty; a solid bitterness and quite dry; long and very fruity hoppy finish (tangerines and oranges)- clean and straightforward

12 oz bottle into tulip. Minneapolis. Appearance: Orange/copper in color. Generous white head with good retention. Impressive lacing. Pretty close to ideal. Aroma: Lots of citrus on the nose. Orange, grapefruit. Peach. Some floral notes also. Really nice. Taste: Pretty dry upfront with mild bitterness in the finish. Palate: Medium/light body. Soft mouthfeel. Longer finish. Overall: This beer has a lot going for it. The aroma is fantastic. The hops profile is pretty much ideal for me. Appearance was very nice as well. The body was a little lighter than I prefer, but I know this was by design. Overall a very nice beer.
