San Diego IPA
The Sculpin IPA is a testament to our humble beginnings as Home Brew Mart. Founded in 1992, the Mart continues to be a catalyst for the San Diego brewing scene, setting the trend for handcrafted ales. Inspired by our customers, employees and brewers, the Sculpin IPA is bright with aromas of apricot, peach, mango and lemon. Its lighter body also brings out the crispness of the hops. This delicious Ballast Point Ale took a Bronze Medal at the 2007 Great American Beer Festival in the Pro Am category. The Sculpin fish has poisonous spikes on its fins that can give a strong sting. Ironically, the meat from a Sculpin is considered some of the most tasty. Something that has a sting but tastes great, sounds like a Ballast Point India Pale Ale.

Sculpin, another great IPA. Unique taste. Strong bitter hop flavor. Ballast Point has a winner. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Pours an amber color with an off-white head. Aroma is of floral and citrus hops with caramel malts. Flavors isn’t as hoppy as the other versions of this brew. I had high hopes for this since the other Sculpin beers were so delicious.

Sculpin kunne jeg altid have liggende klar. 355 ml, flaske, 7.0 % ABV, BB: ikke oplyst, købt i Systembolaget ved Triangeln i Malmö. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

12 oz bottle poured at souplantation in San Diego. Smells like citrus, drank from the bottle so unsure of appearance. Great taste; citrusy hops. Very refreshing. Great beer.

Bottle courtesy of blankboy - thanks, Paul! Clear and bright golden with a small white head. Classic American IPA aroma and flavour, with notes of grapefruit, peach, apricot, pineapple and sweetened lemon. Clean and crisp mouthfeel, lingering bitterness in the finish. Fantastic!

First.....let me add my voice to the chorus of fans who were disappointed to learn that they sold out to the big boys. This is a beautiful IPA but I doubt that it will remain so under the inevitable demands to ramp up production. Apricot, peach/mango up front with a subtle citrusy and balanced finish which makes it very approachable for several in row.

My investigation into American IPAs continues with this classic. Sure, yes, it’s obvious to anyone who can read, there’s a lot of overrating going on here. But still, what a beauty of an ipa. A workshop in taste, balance & drinkability. Offers a sucker punch of citrus hops, medium bitterness & crisp finish. Groovy hop juice for the wicked.
