San Diego IPA
The Sculpin IPA is a testament to our humble beginnings as Home Brew Mart. Founded in 1992, the Mart continues to be a catalyst for the San Diego brewing scene, setting the trend for handcrafted ales. Inspired by our customers, employees and brewers, the Sculpin IPA is bright with aromas of apricot, peach, mango and lemon. Its lighter body also brings out the crispness of the hops. This delicious Ballast Point Ale took a Bronze Medal at the 2007 Great American Beer Festival in the Pro Am category. The Sculpin fish has poisonous spikes on its fins that can give a strong sting. Ironically, the meat from a Sculpin is considered some of the most tasty. Something that has a sting but tastes great, sounds like a Ballast Point India Pale Ale.

Glad sculpin is hitting a wider distribution network. Pours a see through golden orange with a lacing thin white head. Aromas of huge citrus, lemon, apricot, slight grass. Similar flavors with almost a bubblegum finish. Hoppy with a dry finish. Excellent ipa.

Bottle. Slightly cloudy golden yellow with a thin white head. Aroma is strong citrus and pine. Light-medium body and moderate carbonation. Taste is resinous and citrus with fruity undertones. Long-lasting bitter aftertaste. Solid IPA but a little too bitter for my taste.

L: pours a slightly hazy gold with a finger of white head leaving hood lacing. S: smells divine and complex, tropical, fruity, pine, malt. Lively and fresh feeling. T: right on point with all flavours, exceptionally well-balanced and with a hop bitterness that hits at just the right level. F: goes down crisp and smoothly, full feel, so easy to drink. O: after many years and countless bottles, Sculpin has never disappointed, and it’s my reference point whenever I drink an IPA.
