COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
San Diego IPA
The Sculpin IPA is a testament to our humble beginnings as Home Brew Mart. Founded in 1992, the Mart continues to be a catalyst for the San Diego brewing scene, setting the trend for handcrafted ales. Inspired by our customers, employees and brewers, the Sculpin IPA is bright with aromas of apricot, peach, mango and lemon. Its lighter body also brings out the crispness of the hops. This delicious Ballast Point Ale took a Bronze Medal at the 2007 Great American Beer Festival in the Pro Am category. The Sculpin fish has poisonous spikes on its fins that can give a strong sting. Ironically, the meat from a Sculpin is considered some of the most tasty. Something that has a sting but tastes great, sounds like a Ballast Point India Pale Ale.

Aromas of pine, spruce, citrus. Clear gold with white head that lingers. flavors of grapefruit, citrus, spruce, resin. Hop forward beer with bitter dry finish that begs for more beer.

Wspaniały słodki aromat owoców tropikalnych i cutusów. Piwo nisko wysycone. Super gładkie. Świetnie pijalne. Ogólnie niemal doskonałe. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Pours a clear, deep gold color with rich, foamy, off-white head. Aroma is full of citrus and hops, but not overwhelming. Sweeter than expected. Hints of honey and tropical fruit before the bitter finish comes in. Finish is nicely bitter and deceptively long. The finish is my favorite thing about this beer. Overall just a hair too sweet for my taste, but that finish is great. Glad I’m not instantly in love with it for $15 per six pack.

Clear yellow with creamy white foam. Fruity citrus aroma is great. Hoppy citrus flavor with a bitter grapefruit finish. Excellent.

Single bottle purchased at the Grog, and consumed at the bar. $6.00 for the 12 oz. bottle (had also asked for pint glass). This really blew me away 3½-4 years ago, but now I see it more as a passable grapefruit hop-forward IPA from San Diego. Let’s get this show on the road!

To pint, it pours a deep, rusty amber orange with which a sudsy white head 1 finger in length stood. Classic SoCal IPA look.

Aromas of wet Spring grass, grapefruit zest, artichokes, damp newspaper, and krill oil.
Tastes the same with the addition of mulched hay, seawater/minerals, sweated peas, Pacific Northwest hops, The best thing about this beer, would probably be the mouthfeel.

[Can] Pours a orange/amber color. A decent film of foam sticks to the glass and leaves a nice patchwork of lacing. Very fresh and fragrant nose of tropical fruits, pine and juicy peaches. Notes of bitter citrus rinds, apricot, pine sap, spruce and a mild caramel malt backing in the taste. Nice body. Dry and bitter finish lasts quite a while. A solid brew!

(On tap @ Mikkeller Bar Stockholm, Feb 25 2015) Pours clear orange with a small fine white head fading to a ring with lace. Aroma really lead by mango, with some grapefruit and orange juice, touch of citrus rind, strawberry, I think some apricot and tropical fruit mixed up in there, a fresh fruity hop leaf/weed character. Smell is sweet and faintly bitter. Palate has slightly unripe mango, apricot, orange and grapefruit peel, something not quite pine (kumquat?). A bit of tropical/berry sweetness and pale malt in the middle. On the finish, moderate-high citrus pith bitterness, astringent, a hint of grain the only real flaw for me. Medium boded with moderately high carb. A nice, bright and fresh feeling IPA that’s lighter on the malt body. Delicious and really really drinkable. A really nice palette of fruit on the palate too, not one-note by any means. Top flight.

Found at a seedy corner store a couple of blocks from DLand. This beats working today. Strung Out addiction goes on and on. I have to pee like mad but the bowl is farther than I can hit at max arc. Great pour with a long lasting off white creamy cap that looks like bubbly sourdough. Pine nose, peaches, apricots, sweet caramel, sweet lemon, caramel, pepper. Le bouche: same with more pine, balanced pepper nip, bit o’ mango. Not totally dry but close. Big bitterness is not so big or obvious to make a nasty taste bud punch. Nothing here takes over anything else. Great drinking preferably at a perpetual rate until the sun explodes.
