San Diego IPA
The Sculpin IPA is a testament to our humble beginnings as Home Brew Mart. Founded in 1992, the Mart continues to be a catalyst for the San Diego brewing scene, setting the trend for handcrafted ales. Inspired by our customers, employees and brewers, the Sculpin IPA is bright with aromas of apricot, peach, mango and lemon. Its lighter body also brings out the crispness of the hops. This delicious Ballast Point Ale took a Bronze Medal at the 2007 Great American Beer Festival in the Pro Am category. The Sculpin fish has poisonous spikes on its fins that can give a strong sting. Ironically, the meat from a Sculpin is considered some of the most tasty. Something that has a sting but tastes great, sounds like a Ballast Point India Pale Ale.

355ml Can from Brewdog online shop (£3.50):
This one was an excellent offering from Ballast Point, exactly what I was expecting with plenty of hop bitterness and beautiful tropical fruits. There was a nice kick to the beer with some great pine and citrus flavours making the beer a classic and easily one of the best of the style that I’ve tried, there’s only a couple others that I would rate higher.

Going public and near. They will do well this beer kicks butt. Citrus and stone fruit aroma in the best way. Flavor of nice light malts and super fresh clean hops and great clean bitterness. One on best IPAS in the best place for IPAs San Diego.

Beautiful crystal clean deep golden sparkle. Bitter petrolly with a faint hint of grapefruit. Reminiscent of champagne in a way. Good acidic support. Very clean and pure. Beautiful.

Well as much as I did not want to rate this so high, I had to it is fricking awesome.....but not cuz it is huge hops like a Pliny but because it is so fresh and balanced. The hops are fresh piney and fruity and peppery. It is slightly bitter but really hoppy without killing you palate. So thirst quenching and so hoppy a great combo. A+++++

Can at home. Pours clear golden with a medium white head that disappears quickly. A pretty weak aroma but theres hints of lemon and mango coming through. Taste is citrus, caramel and some apricot. Tasting quite a bit of the malt but I’d prefer slightly more bitterness towards the end. Taken me a while to get round to trying one of these and I was expecting big things. A solid IPA that is very drinkable but I think my expectations were slightly high.

Bottle. Nice head eith good duration. Color is golden. Aroma and taste are rich flowers, fruits, pine, citrus and hops. Nice semi bitter finish. Could have been more fresh.
