San Diego IPA
The Sculpin IPA is a testament to our humble beginnings as Home Brew Mart. Founded in 1992, the Mart continues to be a catalyst for the San Diego brewing scene, setting the trend for handcrafted ales. Inspired by our customers, employees and brewers, the Sculpin IPA is bright with aromas of apricot, peach, mango and lemon. Its lighter body also brings out the crispness of the hops. This delicious Ballast Point Ale took a Bronze Medal at the 2007 Great American Beer Festival in the Pro Am category. The Sculpin fish has poisonous spikes on its fins that can give a strong sting. Ironically, the meat from a Sculpin is considered some of the most tasty. Something that has a sting but tastes great, sounds like a Ballast Point India Pale Ale.

Bought in a bottle but I wouldn't have known it - as close to an on-tap taste I've ever had in a bottle. Crisp and deep with taste it feels meticulously crafted. Only a lack of unique flavor or hops prevents a perfect score but as well executed of an IPA as I've ever tasted. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Classic one with dry hops and some citrus fruits. Easy to drink with an unbalaned finish containing some unexpected bitterness. Good one.

Bottle from Douberd and shared by MichaelAwesome - many thanks! Pours out in a hazy amber-golden colour with steady head and medium body. Wonderful aroma of fresh hops, oranges and spruce. Taste of hops, oranges, mango, citrus, spruce, grass, mild pepper and light spices. Highly quaffable to drink, enjoyed it a lot.

Murky orange pour, with a thin creamy head. Bold grassy hops nose that delivers a sweet hop bomb.

Excellent IPA. I have heard good things about it but never got around to trying it but Iím glad I did. Really nice tropical pine aroma. Very West coast itís awesome. Itís like not trying to be too much of something. It is exactly what it is and I think thatís what I like so much about it. The taste is obvious. Itís delicious. Nice soft fruit and dry finish. Very refreshing. Overall a fantastic beer.

On tap at Ridgewood (Raleigh). Pours a nice clear amber with a finger of head. Crisp hoppy aroma and taste. Touch of bitterness. Good, everyday IPA. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle from saveur-biere.com. Amber, slightly hazy body, with a big, creamy, white head. Aroma of grapefruit, peach, mango, passion fruit, pine, candy, biscuit. Taste is bitter, with grapefruit, pine, resin, peach, passion fruit, biscuit, caramel. Mouthfeel is medium, oily to creamy, with a medium carbonation and it finishes bitter, dry, with lemon zest, pine, resin and some sweet malt notes. Finally got to try this one! Great, although I expected a bit more from one of the best rated IPAs. Still a very crisp, perfectly balanced beer, with great tropical fruit nose, a more bitter, piney taste and a great, smooth malt backbone.

UPDATED: JUN 28, 2014 Bottle. Slightly cloudy apricot colour, medium head which dissipates quickly. Fruity hops in the aroma, citrus, apple, a bit of malt coming through. Very hoppy flavour, nicely balanced between bitter and sweet. A very nice IPA, but a touch over rated in my opinion. Iíve had better.

A super solid IPA! This beer sold me for this brewery and now I will attempt to try any and every thing they produce!
