San Diego IPA
The Sculpin IPA is a testament to our humble beginnings as Home Brew Mart. Founded in 1992, the Mart continues to be a catalyst for the San Diego brewing scene, setting the trend for handcrafted ales. Inspired by our customers, employees and brewers, the Sculpin IPA is bright with aromas of apricot, peach, mango and lemon. Its lighter body also brings out the crispness of the hops. This delicious Ballast Point Ale took a Bronze Medal at the 2007 Great American Beer Festival in the Pro Am category. The Sculpin fish has poisonous spikes on its fins that can give a strong sting. Ironically, the meat from a Sculpin is considered some of the most tasty. Something that has a sting but tastes great, sounds like a Ballast Point India Pale Ale.

Great bottle. Pours with a lovely golden colour. White, medium lasting head. Nose: A very hoppy nose with lots of pine tree and citrus. Taste: Almost soft, fruity arrival with quite rich carbonation. Immediately followed by a grapefruity, long lasting bitterness. Fruity, fresh and bitter. In the exit the malt appears, with notes of nice caramel mixing into the hoppy bitterness. A very good IPA but rather on the bitter side for my taste.

UPDATED: JUL 16, 2016 Beautiful clear amber with a small white head that dissipates quickly. Smells strongly of fresh pine. Pleasant steady bitter taste without the highs and lows I get from some. Citrus comes through as it warms. Crisp fresh mouth feel with healthy carbonation. This is a really good IPA!

A very tasty beverage. Clear golden amber/orange with wispy light creamy head. Grapefruit/citrus notes through and through. Don’t really get the hoppiness until the end. Super smooth, not heavy handed or overpowering. Fine brew.

One of the best "standard" IPAs out there. The clear amber color makes it really nice to look at. The aromas is well balanced between ctirus hops, malt and fruit. The finish is long without becoming bitter.

tap - Pours gold with a small, lingering white head. It has a pleasant citrus hop aroma and a similarly citrusy, heavily hopped flavor. It’s medium bodied and has a long, crisply bitter finish.

Draft at Mekong. Pours orange with an inch of white foam. Lots of pine cone on the nose. Pure pine sol on the tongue that's balanced by some nice hop bitterness. It's a big west coast beer but nicely done. It doesn't feel like a hop bomb. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Poured a crystal clear mid-amber with 5mm of creamy dense foam that retained well and laced well as rings and web. Carbonation moderate to high with medium sized bubbles. Aroma nicely hoppy - very piny plus hints of citrus/grapefruit and hints of tropical fruits/pineapple. Taste is very piny plus with a quite strong, nice citric and pine bitterness plus a light caramel malt; alcohol well hidden; well balanced. Medium body. Crisp, fresh and dry with grapefruit plus hints of pine on the finish. A good IPA.
