San Diego IPA
The Sculpin IPA is a testament to our humble beginnings as Home Brew Mart. Founded in 1992, the Mart continues to be a catalyst for the San Diego brewing scene, setting the trend for handcrafted ales. Inspired by our customers, employees and brewers, the Sculpin IPA is bright with aromas of apricot, peach, mango and lemon. Its lighter body also brings out the crispness of the hops. This delicious Ballast Point Ale took a Bronze Medal at the 2007 Great American Beer Festival in the Pro Am category. The Sculpin fish has poisonous spikes on its fins that can give a strong sting. Ironically, the meat from a Sculpin is considered some of the most tasty. Something that has a sting but tastes great, sounds like a Ballast Point India Pale Ale.

Hell yeah. Ballast Point’s ale tastes every bit as aggressive as a West Coast IPA should, yet it has more balance than some of its peers. The aromas and flavors meld together with pine, spruce, grapefruit, resin, and the subtle juiciness overripe tropical fruits. The balance between malts and hops is fantastic. You get just a hint of biscuit taste among the bitterness. There’s also a note of earthy, grassy sweetness. While these kinds of IPA have become extremely common, Sculpin shares the stage with a select few ales that truly embody the West Coast art of hoppy beer.

Bottle. A- Citrus, pine, pepper, hoppy. A- Copper color, clear liquid, white head. T- Bitter, pine, resin, citrus, pepper. P- Medium body, average texture, average carbonation, bitter finish. O- A good IPA as far as IPAs go, but just wasn’t my thing. A little too upfront and sharp for my liking.

Huge thanks to MatSciGuy for giving us the chance to try this! Poured a deeper golden body, good head. Grapefruit and sweet, sticky maltiness in the aroma, might not be perfectly fresh, but still very nice. Perfumey piney hoppy notes, somewhat peppery, balanced perfectly by the underlying sweetish maltiness, notes of sweet orange again. Looooong lasting bitter aftertaste. Superb IPA, I can see this going over 4 fresh.

Uma das melhores IPA's que provei, aroma bem cítrico, puxando mais pro abacaxi, bom amargor, retrogosto lupulado

Pours a deep golden color with a finger of foam. Nose is a mixture of faint tropical hops, stale grass and earthy toasted malts. Palate follows with a round full mouthfeel thats almost jello like. Toasty malts, mango, earthy hay and old dusty dried grass. A bit underwhelming.
