San Diego IPA
The Sculpin IPA is a testament to our humble beginnings as Home Brew Mart. Founded in 1992, the Mart continues to be a catalyst for the San Diego brewing scene, setting the trend for handcrafted ales. Inspired by our customers, employees and brewers, the Sculpin IPA is bright with aromas of apricot, peach, mango and lemon. Its lighter body also brings out the crispness of the hops. This delicious Ballast Point Ale took a Bronze Medal at the 2007 Great American Beer Festival in the Pro Am category. The Sculpin fish has poisonous spikes on its fins that can give a strong sting. Ironically, the meat from a Sculpin is considered some of the most tasty. Something that has a sting but tastes great, sounds like a Ballast Point India Pale Ale.

Poured it has an Amber color. Very light head and minimal carbonation. Smell is very fruity, citrus and hops. Taste is the best. Full fruity and citrus flavor with after taste of hops and spice. Smooth finish. I highly recommend to drink ice cold and relaxing on the beach kinda beer. Really good. One of my favorite IPA.

When pouring the beer, you get an amber beer with white foam. The foam has small means bubbles and is perfectly right. The foam stick around for a while and leave little trace in the glass. Hop aroma will direct, a little malt notes. Behind this, we find the fruity tones of grapefruit. A little tropical and mixed herbs, and a little caramel. The first thing you taste the hops and subsequent bitterness. Both hops and bitterness are dominant but behind that is a lovely taste of the grapefruit. Some mixed tropical flavors of orange and a little lemon. Some spices, herbs and a touch of toasted coming towards the end. The hops and bitterness are dominant and sits in all the time and a moderately while afterwards. I think both hops and bitterness takes over a bit much and that the other flavors will not forward enough.

Delicious and smooth IPA. Tons of nice citrus and tons of tropical fruit. Like a toned down enjoy by with less dankness. Very enjoyable and world class IPA. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Aroma fake orange, Appearance orange, clear, white foam, Taste light sweetness, lightly bitter, medium bitterness, Palate medium body, Overall to me there is a unnatural orange flavor that is not doing it for me. I am a fan of the grapefruit and pineapple but not this one. I would not suggest this beer to a friend.

Bottle at home, from Systembolaget. Clear amber with a white head, nice lacings. Aroma medium malty (caramel) and hoppy (piney, citrusy, orange, tropical fruit). Flavor medium sweet, medium+ bitter, fruity, long lasting, metallic. Medium+ body.

Pours an amber color with an off-white head. Aroma is of floral and citrus hops with caramel malts. Flavors isn’t as hoppy as the other versions of this brew. I had high hopes for this since the other Sculpin beers were so delicious.
