San Diego IPA
The Sculpin IPA is a testament to our humble beginnings as Home Brew Mart. Founded in 1992, the Mart continues to be a catalyst for the San Diego brewing scene, setting the trend for handcrafted ales. Inspired by our customers, employees and brewers, the Sculpin IPA is bright with aromas of apricot, peach, mango and lemon. Its lighter body also brings out the crispness of the hops. This delicious Ballast Point Ale took a Bronze Medal at the 2007 Great American Beer Festival in the Pro Am category. The Sculpin fish has poisonous spikes on its fins that can give a strong sting. Ironically, the meat from a Sculpin is considered some of the most tasty. Something that has a sting but tastes great, sounds like a Ballast Point India Pale Ale.

Pineapple, apricot, citrus and pine aroma. Taste is very spicy, tropical fruits, big hop bitterness and some grapefruit. Really refreshing and addictive. A first class West coast IPA.

A very refreshing scent of pineapple would make you feel good. The right amount of mouthfeel. Well balanced between sweetness and bitterness.

On draft at lost lake. delicious IPA. Really dig this. Perfect amount of kick to it, but also smooth. Hoppy but it's a light hoppiness that's sparkly.

Much has been said about this beer and Iíll make it short. Itís an amazing IPA with very citrusy-hop foward aroma that is also very complicated. It has a clear golden body color, with very nice head retention that is an inch thick. The aroma is again very citrus. Pineapple dominant at first and then peach and apricot notes follow. The taste is very complex. Itís resiny, floral and piny while maintaining its hoppy character. Moutfeel is very crispy. For me, itís on the harsher end but itís still nice.

One of the best IPAs Iíve ever had! It has a near perfect mouthfeel for me and thatís helped by a fairly light job of carbonation. Dang, I better slow down here, not because of the abv but because itís so damn tasty and I donít want to be looking at an empty bottle and glass! Yum!

How could I resist this? This beer is just awesome. Perfectly balanced between bitterness and sweetness. I love this dominated fruity smell. Best beer I had today.

Aroma is dominated by hops, grapefruit and spruce. Just a bit of bready malt. Light copper or amber color with a fairly substantial white to off-white head. Clear. Taste is quite dry and quite bitter. Palate is interesting, fairly light body, really crisp and dry. Carbonation average. Finish is grapefruit and carbonation. Overall I like the crispness and dry bitterness. Definitely a hop bomb though, not much malt balance.

This is an awesome and balanced IPA. Good aroma of pine, hops, citrus. The flavor is mild with a nice and hoppy undertone. Alcohol is masked.
