San Diego IPA
The Sculpin IPA is a testament to our humble beginnings as Home Brew Mart. Founded in 1992, the Mart continues to be a catalyst for the San Diego brewing scene, setting the trend for handcrafted ales. Inspired by our customers, employees and brewers, the Sculpin IPA is bright with aromas of apricot, peach, mango and lemon. Its lighter body also brings out the crispness of the hops. This delicious Ballast Point Ale took a Bronze Medal at the 2007 Great American Beer Festival in the Pro Am category. The Sculpin fish has poisonous spikes on its fins that can give a strong sting. Ironically, the meat from a Sculpin is considered some of the most tasty. Something that has a sting but tastes great, sounds like a Ballast Point India Pale Ale.

Solid West Coast Single IPA here. Not much to be said about a beer with 2050 ratings except it’s damn good!

Bottle pours an orange amber with a thick white head and nice lacing. Aromas of grapefruit, citrus, and melon. Flavor is very well balanced citrus hop bitter with a clean slightly peppery finish.

22oz bomber: This one pours a fairly clear, slightly orangish color. There was a pretty good sized head on it that left some lacing. Nice nose to this one. Pine, earthiness and a hint of grapefruit are the main aromas. Maybe some faint caramel malts and other fruits mixed in. The taste is good. An excellent combination of the different hops. Nice amount of bitterness to it. No residual sweetness from the malts. A very nice IPA.

Ggeatest beer on the planet, An oldie and still the envy and benchmark every other IPA shoots for. Nice bouquet of grapefruit, melons and pineapple. Somewhat low low bitterness buy current standards. If I was AB-Inbev I would buy Ballast point ASAP.

Pours an orange with one finger head and mild/moderate lacing. Very forward hop aroma with pine, resin, grapefruit. Toasted malt backbone. Medium to full bodied. Long bitter finish. Great beer.

Tasted from 650ml bottle. Tending towards the tropical fruit end of the spectrum. Nothing immediately jumps out because this beer is incredibly balanced. Great length on the palate, This beer is really hard to pick individual flavours because it is so intertwined. The sum of the parts is greater than the whole.

Pretty darn good. Very earthy dank and bitter. Good amount of pine. Not really citrus tasting. So darn fresh and tasty. Big down side, too darn expensive. The price is reflected in the Overall category. I usually wouldn’t let something like that reflect my rating, but $16 a six pack is too much money. Easily could be a 4.5 out of 5 if the price were closed to $10 a six pack.
