COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
San Diego IPA
The Sculpin IPA is a testament to our humble beginnings as Home Brew Mart. Founded in 1992, the Mart continues to be a catalyst for the San Diego brewing scene, setting the trend for handcrafted ales. Inspired by our customers, employees and brewers, the Sculpin IPA is bright with aromas of apricot, peach, mango and lemon. Its lighter body also brings out the crispness of the hops. This delicious Ballast Point Ale took a Bronze Medal at the 2007 Great American Beer Festival in the Pro Am category. The Sculpin fish has poisonous spikes on its fins that can give a strong sting. Ironically, the meat from a Sculpin is considered some of the most tasty. Something that has a sting but tastes great, sounds like a Ballast Point India Pale Ale.

Bottle from SD at home. Bright (almost neon) translucent orange pour - looks delicious. Aroma is apricot and peachy sweetness - not that strong. Taste is fruity hoppy with a very strong crisp bitterness. Not as big as I thought it would be. Solid crisp IPA with some juicy flavors. I think my expectations were too high.

From a can. Pours a light amber-orange and makes a nice white head. Smells of toffee and light caramel. Tastes of grapefruit, citrus, and hops. Reminds me of Sierra Nevada Pale Ale. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

355ml bottle. Pours a hazy golden amber, with a smallish off-white head, which lasts fairly well and leaves decnt lacing. Resin, passionfruit and pineapple hops notes sit over a light caramel malt base to create the aroma. Potent resin, lime and pineapple hops up front give way to mild caramel malt in the mid-palate. Kiwifruit and grapefruit hops give it an assertively bitter finish. A very high quality IPA, razor-sharp and with a good range of flavours.

Draft at Coasters. Medium amber body with off-white lacing. Citrusy hoppy aroma. Fruity hops in the flavor, moderate bitterness. Finishes sticky and tart. Nice IPA.

330ml bottle from Queens Plaza Beer and Wine 180714. There is nothing fishy about this beer. Big hop aromas with lots of fruit. Full flavoured and possibly the best Ballast Point beer I have had.

Love this one. Amazing appearance. Golden orange with aroma of toffee and alcohol. Body is super light. Bright fruity notes with bitter backbone and alcohol burn. Near perfect. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Pours a clear orange with white head. Aroma or tropical and citrus fruits and some sweet notes. Taste is a nice clean assertive bitterness throughout with a caramel backbone. Pine, grapefruit, mango, and biscuity flavors. Medium bodied. Very well done IPA. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

A very good IPA that has a great finish and aroma that is not too strong but the beer is very drinkable. Something one could drink several of and not feel like overwhelming on the palette.

Beautiful golden amber color capped by a white, frothy, lasting head. Aromas and flavors of pine, citrus, mango, pineapple, kiwi and other tropical fruits. Substantial bitterness, but not the least bit harsh. Medium bodied with some bready malt which supports the tropical fruits perfectly.
