COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
San Diego IPA
The Sculpin IPA is a testament to our humble beginnings as Home Brew Mart. Founded in 1992, the Mart continues to be a catalyst for the San Diego brewing scene, setting the trend for handcrafted ales. Inspired by our customers, employees and brewers, the Sculpin IPA is bright with aromas of apricot, peach, mango and lemon. Its lighter body also brings out the crispness of the hops. This delicious Ballast Point Ale took a Bronze Medal at the 2007 Great American Beer Festival in the Pro Am category. The Sculpin fish has poisonous spikes on its fins that can give a strong sting. Ironically, the meat from a Sculpin is considered some of the most tasty. Something that has a sting but tastes great, sounds like a Ballast Point India Pale Ale.

From memory of taster @ the brewery. This coulda been a contender, if not for the onions. Awefully nice citrus and perfume on the nose, and then onion. No one else will really notice, but it’s there. Otherwise, excellent.

Beautiful golden amber color capped by a white, frothy, lasting head. Aromas and flavors of pine, citrus, mango, pineapple, kiwi and other tropical fruits. Substantial bitterness, but not the least bit harsh. Medium bodied with some bready malt which supports the tropical fruits perfectly.

Bottle [from trade with mista] @ weekly tasting shared with Dutchdrebus. Clear orange color, full sized off-white head that lasts for a long time. Aroma is malts, loads of hops, very fruity with grapefruit amd mandarin. Taste malts, hops, fruit hops, fruity, grapefruit, bitter. Lingering fruit and bitter hops in the aftertaste. Incredibly balanced flavor between the fruit hops and bitter hops. Medium to full body, perfect carbonation. I thought maybe this beer is hyped, but it is simply good. Very good, incredibly balanced. Lovely IPA.

Fat på Beer Ditch. Smak och doft av persika, aprikos, mango, citrus med toner av citron och granskott. Rund och len, lagom sötma, lätt strävhet med fin beska med smak av grapefrukt och tall. Välbalanserad och fruktig. Fantastiskt gott.

Hazy orange body and a lasting head of white bubbles. Grapefruit hop aroma with some hints of caramel malt sweetness. Citrus rind bitterness in the taste, some floral notes before a bit of sweet at the finish. Very tasty.

Bottled sample. Gold in colour with medium carbonation. Aromas are of apricot, cut grass, sweet citrus and sweet pale malts. More fleshy stone fruits in the mouth, along with pale and caramel malt, and lemon. Medium bodied with substantial bitterness. I was expecting a sharper and dryer beverage, considering its reputation. Not sure how fresh it it, but consumed only a couple of days after purchase. Ok as is.

Crisp and refreshing. Very citrus and clean. Very detailed hop notes. Tastes like it just came from tap room. FRESH

Bottled 355ml. -Courtesy of MatSciGuy, shared with him and Marko (thanks!). Darker golden coloured, small off-white head, piney nose. Sweet malty, decent hoppy and touch of caramel with mild fruity sweetness in rather bitter finish. Long lasting bitter aftertaste. Nice IPA but not in TOP 5 I’ve had.

Classic ipa. Clear light orange. Citrus, pine, floral. The taste adds lemon and apricot with some caramel malt. Sticky resin and bitter bitter on the finish. Overall, a great strong ipa. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
