4.4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
UPDATED: SEP 18, 2013 Poured from a 12oz bottle to a tulip. Truly from the time you open the bottle Sculpin reveals itself as something special. The aroma bursts forth from the tulip. Citrus and stone fruit come to the fore. The earthy hops and even a tinge of cat pee funk linger underneath. Intriguing, this is absolutely one of the best smelling IPAS out there. The appearance is beautiful in itís simplicity and clarity. Pours like a medium colored lager with a minimumal white head. The carbonation is light. The taste is an explosion of strong grapefruit and lemony citrus hops. The front of the tongue is awash in juicy hop flavor and bitterness. A mild rock candy like sweetness hits in mid swallow before the bitterness returns on the finish. Yowza! This brew really is a marvel! It is well deserved of the accolades heaped upon it. One nosing, one sip and one swallow and youíll know youíre in for a game changer. Iím editing this review to reflect that in my area (Twin Cities) I can find this right at $9.99 a six pack. Iíve seen several post that call Sculpin pricey but here at least itís the same as other staples in my rotation such as Bellís Two Hearted, or Odells and cheaper per ounce than Stone IPA or Surly Furious.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
On draft. Copper color with one finger head. Citrus aroma. Very citrus taste, a little earthy. Exactly what I like in an IPA.

One of the first beers I tried after arriving in California, on tap at the black cat in Silverlake. A pleasure.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20
Pours a handsome golden color with a slight orange hue. Limited head.
Beautiful citrus smells. Floral scents and fresh grass also come through. Crisp hop flavors include grapefruit and pine. Extremely drinkable, very refreshing. Me gusto mucho.

Can see why this is rated so highly. Big but small, flavoursome but easy drinking, very good

4.9 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 20/20
Quite possibly the best IPA I've ever tasted (haven't tried Pliny or Heady Topper though). Nevertheless it's just a damn fine IPA. Very smooth, not bitter, yet has all the citrusy, piney, hoppy flavor that you love from an IPA. Great mouthfeel. Aroma is citrus.

4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
650ml bottle from cellarbrations super store in hami hill. Pours golden with a thick white head leaving some nice lacing. Aroma is subtle with hints of lemon citrus, apricot and perhaps a touch of mango. Body is quite light with a medium to low carbonation. Taste is lovely with lots of citrus characters with a subtle dry bitter finish. Such an approachable IPA. Smooth and crisp and just Awesome !

3.9 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
The smell was superb, one of the finest Iíve felt. Very fruity (9/10). The appearance is a flat yellow. Nothing special (3/5). The taste is very light, maybe too light for me (7/10). Palate leaves a hoppy & fruity ending (4/5). Overally an excellent beer, but for being honest, I expected more. Iíve tried better from Ballast Point (16/20)

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Poured from a 12 oz bottle into a tumbler on 11.03.14.
A: Orange. Maybe honey malt. It smells sweet, but itís not a very strong smelling IPA.
A: 1/2 finger head with a moderate pour. Hazy pale orange body.
T: Orange, tropical fruit, and honey malt dominate. Pine, lemon, and biscuity malt are subtle.
P: Crisp with bubbles on the back end.
O: This is in the San Diego style, obviously, but itís a well-balanced IPA. It has a subtle piney bite on the back end. Overall, itís not very strong, but it might make a good entry IPA. Stone IPA is similar but seems to have a stronger kick to it as itís more hop forward.
