San Diego IPA
The Sculpin IPA is a testament to our humble beginnings as Home Brew Mart. Founded in 1992, the Mart continues to be a catalyst for the San Diego brewing scene, setting the trend for handcrafted ales. Inspired by our customers, employees and brewers, the Sculpin IPA is bright with aromas of apricot, peach, mango and lemon. Its lighter body also brings out the crispness of the hops. This delicious Ballast Point Ale took a Bronze Medal at the 2007 Great American Beer Festival in the Pro Am category. The Sculpin fish has poisonous spikes on its fins that can give a strong sting. Ironically, the meat from a Sculpin is considered some of the most tasty. Something that has a sting but tastes great, sounds like a Ballast Point India Pale Ale.

Cask at Get Real NY. Dry hopped with Fuggles. Very nice fruity aroma, lots of citrus, grapefruit, tropical fruit. Taste is hoppy, pine and fruit, but very smooth. Light bitterness on the finish. Very fruity, flavorful, smooth, complex, amazing IPA. Need to try this again, and soon. One of the few beers at Get Real that really stood out.

Bottle. Pours an unclear orange with an average, off-white head. Aromas of light malts, caramel, and lots of hops (pine, orange, grapefruit, peach). Flavor is slightly sweet with a strong hop flavor. Hop notes of grapefruit, pine and other sweet fruits nicely balanced by some moderate malts.

Presentation: It was poured from a brown 12 oz bottle into a tulip glass. The label lists the abv at 7% abv. Appearance: It has a clear golden body with lots of visible carbonation. The builds up tall and thick with a just off white head. This head quickly faded out on me making next to no lacing. Smell: There is a bid hop presence here with loads of citrusy and piney hop notes. Taste / Palate: The first few sips I mostly got loads of pine like and some citrusy grapefruit and lemon rind flavor notes. As I drank on and the beer warms more peach like fruit notes and maltiness comes out. The finish is all hop bitterness which lingers for some time. The body and carbonation feel spot on and I can see why Sculpin IPA is so highly rated. Notes: Classic West coast IPA!!!

Appearance is orange with a medium white head. Aroma is strong floral hops. Taste is similarly floral hops with a good bite of bitterness. IPA isnít my style, but this is one of the better ones out there.

650 mL bottle. Clear gold pour, tall white head, good lacing. Big citrus aroma, mild cereal malt notes. Taste is very well balanced, lots of citrus, mainly orange and a long lasting bitter finish. Great IPA.

Clear copper colour with foamy big head on top and its lasts relatively long time. Leaves beautiful lacing. Aroma has grapefruits, citrus, pines and some caramel sweetness. A typical West Coast here. Taste has quite much caramel malts, pines, grapefruits and some other sweeter fruits. Body is surprisingly full and carbonation is medium-to-light. Slightly sweeter IPA, but definitely an excellent beer in the West Coast style.

Appearance was amber gold with diminishing whitish creamy 1 finger head, spotty lacing.Aromas where sweet honey malt with grapefriut, lemons, oranges and spices. Taste was sweet figs, honey sweet malty backbone with melony citrus lemony hops comes through in the back. Palate was smooth creamy carbonation with beautiful medium balance of sweetness and hops. Wonderful IPA...

UPDATED: FEB 22, 2014 The citrusy aroma is really great. The taste is very, very good - first citrusy/fruity hops and then a decent bit of pine resin on the finish with almost no malt present. Itís medium bodied - not quite light, but definitely not heavy. If you like IPAs, this one is a must try if you see it.
