San Diego IPA
The Sculpin IPA is a testament to our humble beginnings as Home Brew Mart. Founded in 1992, the Mart continues to be a catalyst for the San Diego brewing scene, setting the trend for handcrafted ales. Inspired by our customers, employees and brewers, the Sculpin IPA is bright with aromas of apricot, peach, mango and lemon. Its lighter body also brings out the crispness of the hops. This delicious Ballast Point Ale took a Bronze Medal at the 2007 Great American Beer Festival in the Pro Am category. The Sculpin fish has poisonous spikes on its fins that can give a strong sting. Ironically, the meat from a Sculpin is considered some of the most tasty. Something that has a sting but tastes great, sounds like a Ballast Point India Pale Ale.

Draft sample at 2013 Cincinnati Brew Ha Ha festival. Cloudy golden hue, strong hoppy/fruity nose, pleasing bittersweet taste with a lot of different fruit notes.

wow. 650ml bottle poured hazy gold with rocky sticky yellowish head. Aroma is bright and very flural with sweet mago and grapefruit notes up front other citrus fruit notes in the mix also like oranges and peaches. Taste is hoppy and piney notes but still holds a citrus fruit taste with a very good body. Extreamly complex and the aroma is very strong. phenominal IPA

One of the best IPAs. This is packed with hops. Tastes of pine and grapefruit. Very thirst quenching. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle. Aroma was quite fruity, citrus, peach, mango I picked up in addition to floral. Appearance is orange golden medium-full off-white head. Light sweet taste. Medium-light malt body, texture on the thin side, mild bitter finish. Smooth finish mixing hop and malt. Not my favorite IPA, but definitely one of the better ones out there.

Crazy delicious. I like my big IPA’s to pucker me up and say "Damn, man!". This does that to me. Like freshly squeezed hops and hemp, this is a fresh tasting, big time IPA. One of my favorites from Ballast Point.

Pours copper with a pillowy cream colored head with some nice patches of lacing. Smell is light citrus and a touch of sweetness. The taste is balanced if not a bit mild. Pine, grapefruit, bready malt, and just a touch of skittles. I usually like my ipa’s more hop dominant, but this is a pretty solid offering. Well balanced, tasty, and refreshing.

Deep golden, slightly hazy with a white head. Sweet and malty aroma with tropcial fruits; apricots, pine-apple. Slightly boozy. Sweet malts and loads of mango in the flavour. Medium bitterness.

UPDATED: AUG 27, 2012 the aroma right off the bat was the citrus of the hops and as it warmed some i picked up the apricot and peach...what a wonderful scent to have in this beer...medium bodied and smooooooth...hops do no over power this beer at all..the citrus flavor and the apricot are forefront on this one and the smoothness as it goes down. on the back end you do get a bit of the lemon blended with the bitterness of the hops and it works...very very good beer.

Pours a clear orange yellow with a thick head from a bottle. Nice to get a 6-pack for $15. Sweet hops and apricot is the aroma, very nice. Flavor is a really nice sweet hop on the back of the tongue. This was a great recommendation by the beer guy at Cardinal in Niles. I would have thought this beer to be more than 7%.
