COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
San Diego IPA
The Sculpin IPA is a testament to our humble beginnings as Home Brew Mart. Founded in 1992, the Mart continues to be a catalyst for the San Diego brewing scene, setting the trend for handcrafted ales. Inspired by our customers, employees and brewers, the Sculpin IPA is bright with aromas of apricot, peach, mango and lemon. Its lighter body also brings out the crispness of the hops. This delicious Ballast Point Ale took a Bronze Medal at the 2007 Great American Beer Festival in the Pro Am category. The Sculpin fish has poisonous spikes on its fins that can give a strong sting. Ironically, the meat from a Sculpin is considered some of the most tasty. Something that has a sting but tastes great, sounds like a Ballast Point India Pale Ale.

Bottle. Pours bright orange with a frothy white head, nice thick lacing on the glass. Heavy pine and citrus in the nose, a touch of melon underneath. Nicely balanced flavor, bitter hop blast to start, lemon tartness with a touch of sweet malts, ends long with the hops lingering on for quite some time. Medium carbonation makes this smooth and drinkable. Just a well done IPA, nothing unusual, just an almost ideal example of the style.

Pours out a clear orangeish gold with lots of head. Taste is creamy and hoppy. Lots of spicy hops. Great IPA with, some sweetness and lots of pine. Had last year, best IPA.

Bottle from Craft Beer Base. Golden colour with small head. Very hoppy aroma with some pine and herbs. Same when you drink it, very smooth, nice finish.

Pours copper orange, light haze, light white head. Aroma is full of fruit, pineapple, citrus, mango, light spruce. Infinitely drinkable, juicy, light sweetness, above mentioned fruits continue through to the taste, finishes up medium bitter.. orange rind. Medium body / carbo. Love how good this is, despite being fairly "available".

Pours into glass a hazy amber/orange, with minimal white head that fizzes away within a minute. Almost no lacing. Aromas of grapefruit, pineapple, citrus, hops. Very pleasant. Really pleasant, heavenly mouthfull of citrus hops, grapefruits, pineapple all swirling on the tongue complimenting each other. With a medium body, this is good stuff. Fantastic. A great example of the great West Coast IPA. Look forward to more.

Pours golden. Aroma is citrus hops. Taste is citrus hops and good amount of bitterness. Palate is a bit fizzy, but smooth finish that leaves bitterness on the tongue. Easy drinking IPA that would be great on a hot day.

Bottle from SD at home. Bright (almost neon) translucent orange pour - looks delicious. Aroma is apricot and peachy sweetness - not that strong. Taste is fruity hoppy with a very strong crisp bitterness. Not as big as I thought it would be. Solid crisp IPA with some juicy flavors. I think my expectations were too high.

On draft at Ballast Point. My 100 on rate beer and reasonably so! The best IPA out there! Insane hoppy aroma with a pungent, piney palate. One of the GOATs!

Grapfruit in the aroma, tropcial fruit and a bit of malt. Copper colored, not very long lasting white head. Very piney dry taste upfront with a dry finish. Not overly complex but very unique. A bit of malt and tropical fruit in the aftertaste. Not overly complex but very refined and unique. Carbonation feels very fine. Medium bodied.

Bursting with citrus and pine aroma. Pours a deep golden color with generous white head. The taste is bitter but opens up to some sweeter tropical flavors towards the end. This beer is so good, I feel lucky to be able to drink it.
