San Diego IPA
The Sculpin IPA is a testament to our humble beginnings as Home Brew Mart. Founded in 1992, the Mart continues to be a catalyst for the San Diego brewing scene, setting the trend for handcrafted ales. Inspired by our customers, employees and brewers, the Sculpin IPA is bright with aromas of apricot, peach, mango and lemon. Its lighter body also brings out the crispness of the hops. This delicious Ballast Point Ale took a Bronze Medal at the 2007 Great American Beer Festival in the Pro Am category. The Sculpin fish has poisonous spikes on its fins that can give a strong sting. Ironically, the meat from a Sculpin is considered some of the most tasty. Something that has a sting but tastes great, sounds like a Ballast Point India Pale Ale.

Clear golden pour. Very nice lacing. Aroma is grapefruit and hops, overall the aroma is all there, amazing. Taste is grapefruit start to finish. Very smooth. Very good. Top 5 ipa’s all time. Impressive.

On tap @ brewery. Clear, honey, small head, no lace. Medium body, light carbonation, and lightly dry. Nothing special about this brew. Citrus and fruit on the aroma as well as honey. Flavor is mostly grapefruit rind, with honey, floral-honey-comb. Kind of typical, but good.

Tap. Pours a dull gold with medium head that lingers. Great hop aroma. Initial taste is strong citrus hops. Lots of pine and grapefruit. Medium bitterness in the aftertaste. Perhaps a bit too much bitterness for my tastes as it warmed up, but excellent overall.

This beer pours a clear golden color with a medium off white head that left some good amount of lacing around the glass. The aroma is amazing! I pick up citrus, sweet grapefruit, and pine. The taste is quite similar to the aroma. you pick up the hop bitterness right up front but it is not overwhelming and finishes with a sweet grapefruit and citrus taste on the back-end. The mouthfeel is on the light to medium side. The drinkability is quite high but you have to be careful with the abv. I wasn’t sure if I would be let down by this beer but I certainly wasn’t. It is truly a world class beer.

Bottle from Bri @ Holiday Wine Cellar.. Pours a light golden color with a fluffy white head...Alot of citrus hops in the nose. This one has a really great smell..The flavor from begining to the end is all hops. That being said it is not as harsh as other IPAs that I’ve had. It has a nice citrus sweetness that is very easy to drink..This one will bring out the hophead in all of us.

Pours a clear orange with white head. Aroma or tropical and citrus fruits and some sweet notes. Taste is a nice clean assertive bitterness throughout with a caramel backbone. Pine, grapefruit, mango, and biscuity flavors. Medium bodied. Very well done IPA. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Nice looking slightly hazy orange with decent white head. Aroma is dominated piney/citrusy hops. Flavors are much the same as the aroma. Firm malt body and aggressive, but pleasant, hop bitterness. Great example of a West Coast IPA.

Nice IPA. Aroma is not overpowering, but flavor is good. Nice piney sharpness, citrus. Slightly oily but pleasant. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Pours hazy apricot, nice head and lasting lace, citrusy, apricot biscuits aroma, beautifully balanced sweet apricot fruit leather and hoppy middle palate, finishing full-bodied and crisp. No sign of the 7% ABV on the palate, a benchmark IPA!

beautiful light aromatic citrus hops. The bouquet of hops is my favorite characteristic-slaps you in the face. Extremely drinkable.
