COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
San Diego IPA
The Sculpin IPA is a testament to our humble beginnings as Home Brew Mart. Founded in 1992, the Mart continues to be a catalyst for the San Diego brewing scene, setting the trend for handcrafted ales. Inspired by our customers, employees and brewers, the Sculpin IPA is bright with aromas of apricot, peach, mango and lemon. Its lighter body also brings out the crispness of the hops. This delicious Ballast Point Ale took a Bronze Medal at the 2007 Great American Beer Festival in the Pro Am category. The Sculpin fish has poisonous spikes on its fins that can give a strong sting. Ironically, the meat from a Sculpin is considered some of the most tasty. Something that has a sting but tastes great, sounds like a Ballast Point India Pale Ale.

A really fantastic full flavored IPA. This is so balanced. The aroma is super herbal and hoppy. Tons of citrus. Same with the taste...with a really nice and sweet malt backbone. Palate is perfect and this finished dry and balanced. BALANCED! Its alittle pale yellowish with haze....I love those IPA that are bright orange and clear. A wonderful brew.

Bottle but drank from a mug. Unfortunate. Great beer. Aroma is citrus sweet. Fruity ipa, but stays true to hop heavy ipa style. Finishes nice

Pours orangish amber with white head. Strong citrus and pine hops. Taste is hoppy with caramel and tofee notes. Excellent malt presense that is not to overwhelming.

There is almost no need to describe the taste cause you all know how it goes - pine notes, grape fruit, orange peels, and so on. The bitterness kicks in like a fish hook in your chin, and a grumpy fisherman reels you in, with that sturdy, weather-beaten look on his face and your’e hooked.

UPDATED: JAN 19, 2015 Bottle from Beverage Warehouse of Vermont (Winooski). Aroma: citrus, peaches and mango’s, grapefruits, pines, resin. App: mid hazy-mid clear orange with small white head. Taste and palate: medium-heavy bitter, light body, average carbonation, bitter finish. Overall: Awesome aroma, aroma has everything I’m looking for. Taste is pretty good too. If you can get it in can, then don’t think twice and take it. I preferred this beer in can over the bottle version.

Clear golden pour, with just a touch of amber, coupled with a very nice head and long lasting lacing. The nose is a complex blend of grapefruit, mango and other sweet tropicals against a subtle spruce. Light medium body with a smooth texture. The carbonation level is a touch above normal. The outstanding flavor profile is expertly complex and follows the nose. Grapefruit leads then flows into the sweeter hop flavors. In the middle the biscuit malt comes through against a subtle spruce flavor. The finish effervesces into a grapefruit bitter tartness over a caramel sweetness. This is an outstanding complex hop flavor bomb.

Thanks kmweaver for sharing this bomber: Tremendous resin and orange notes in hop aroma exponentially increased in hop flavor. I suspect a touch of crystal malt supplements the lean base malt profile. There is a curious drying note in finish that I find leans toward solvent warmth, yet my knowing informal tasting partner kmweaver calls ’slightly vinous’. This may be balancing, or possibly a mark off (most prominent as beer warms). Amazing hop schedule-- is it simcoe/amarillo?

Mycket svag doft. Ren torr IPA med viss metall i smaken..Lagom humlad. . Saknar dock frukt å fyllighet för att bli en perfekt IPA. Svenska bryggare hämta inspiration här.

Pours light amber with large white/tan head out of can. Tropical fruit aroma with hint of hops and citrus. Great hop flavor with finish of citrus. Excellent beer! ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

a damn good ipa....lighter in color and body then alot of the other examples of the style.... but......darn good nose of grapefruity hops....and also the lighter body helps to showcase the hops more....good stuff
