San Diego IPA
The Sculpin IPA is a testament to our humble beginnings as Home Brew Mart. Founded in 1992, the Mart continues to be a catalyst for the San Diego brewing scene, setting the trend for handcrafted ales. Inspired by our customers, employees and brewers, the Sculpin IPA is bright with aromas of apricot, peach, mango and lemon. Its lighter body also brings out the crispness of the hops. This delicious Ballast Point Ale took a Bronze Medal at the 2007 Great American Beer Festival in the Pro Am category. The Sculpin fish has poisonous spikes on its fins that can give a strong sting. Ironically, the meat from a Sculpin is considered some of the most tasty. Something that has a sting but tastes great, sounds like a Ballast Point India Pale Ale.

Cask/Draft @ Hamiltons. One of my favorite IPAís. Dank, sticky, piney, citrusy, skunky. A Healthy mouthfeel and dangerously drinkable.

UPDATED: AUG 9, 2014 Pours a cloudy golden color with a white head. Smells like citrus and the taste follows. Very citrus body, followed by pine and earthy on the end. Hops don?t really kick in until the finish. Very well balanced IPA.

I've had this before, but as I sit here waiting for my takeout order, sipping on a draught flute of Sculpin, I'm turned to write a review. I don't find this beer to be outstanding in any one area, and yet it is very good in all areas. The balance of citrus and sweet, with bitterness and malty dryness is fantastic. The beer is not heavy but does have a thickness towards the end, as the grapefruit-rind bitterness sneaks out and spreads into a thin, yet ever-present layer of ending flavor. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Had at forum shops in Ceasars in las vegas. 6.75 for a twelve ounce. Expensive but in Vegas. Big floral nose. not real bitter on ront end. Excellent hop balance. Very light to non exsistant malt profile, but perfect for an IPA style. would drink all day, but too much $$$$. great brew.

I love this beer. Great crisp, citrusy hops throughout. An excellent example of the SoCal IPA.

Looks a nice copper with lots of lace. Smells a bit oniony, with some tropical fruit notes, faint rubber smells. Weird. Tastes a bit rubbery at first followed bit fruity notes. Mouthfeel is rich and fine. Overall an over the top IPA with a bit too much hop extract, pellets to the point of sulfur. A good run of the mill IPA but nothing amazing as ratings suggest. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Iím not liking the lack of dating on this beer. Itís brewed in San Diego and Iím in Massachusetts, where I purchased it off a wooden uncooled shelf after a long, hot summer. I see that it is a highly rated brew (thereís nothing higher than 100, unless you play football and always give 110%), but what Iím drinking just seems pleasantly ordinary. In which case, depending on price and availability (never seen it anywhere else in MA other than Trubeer in Easthampton) I might have it again.
