COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
San Diego IPA
The Sculpin IPA is a testament to our humble beginnings as Home Brew Mart. Founded in 1992, the Mart continues to be a catalyst for the San Diego brewing scene, setting the trend for handcrafted ales. Inspired by our customers, employees and brewers, the Sculpin IPA is bright with aromas of apricot, peach, mango and lemon. Its lighter body also brings out the crispness of the hops. This delicious Ballast Point Ale took a Bronze Medal at the 2007 Great American Beer Festival in the Pro Am category. The Sculpin fish has poisonous spikes on its fins that can give a strong sting. Ironically, the meat from a Sculpin is considered some of the most tasty. Something that has a sting but tastes great, sounds like a Ballast Point India Pale Ale.

Top end IPA; for sure in my top 5. Treated myself on father’s day to a 6 pack. Did the trick :)

Appearance: Very bubbly, with a bright orange hue. Looks very refreshing. Smell: Citrusy and tropical. Very appealing. Taste: Hops were surprisingly sharp up front, given the aroma, but not in an offensive way. Just more punch to this beer than the smell would imply. Mouthfeel: Medium body. Drinkability: Very tasty and drinkable. I love the art and the tone it sets with the beer. A tough IPA with big hops.

Pours hazy golden amber color. One finger diminishing head. Moderate carbonation. Aroma of strong grapefruit and other citrusy fruit. Tastes just like it smells. Loads if grapefruit and hops up front with a crisp finish and smooth mouth feel.

12 once bottle. Nice orange body, not too much on the nose. Just average for me there are much better ipa’s.

Pours an orange color with nice frothy head. Aroma is fruity and citrusy. Lightly malty up front with good grapefruity taste. Carbonation is about right for an IPA. Great tasting beer.

On draft. Nice amber color, decent white head. Smells of mangos, light pineapple and maracuya. This stuff smells fantastic. Taste is low residual sugar (dry), just light malt taste followed by a very flavorful, fruity, citrusy, hop experience. It does finish with a medium resin. This stuff is crazy good and is the kind of beer I could drink all the time. Guess that is why I buy it by the 1/6 barrel. :)

Currently in a hophead phase, and have been looking forward to this for a while. Missed the last batch at my local bottleshop, City Beverage, and was glad to hear they got more in recently. Pours a light amber color. Nice white head. Aroma is nice, but not all that strong. A big balance. Not too much of a hop bite on my bottle. Maybe the hops have mellowed a bit since the bottling? It’s on the sweet side. Smooth mouthfeel, not much carbonation. Kind of a short finish for a supposed hop bomber. Pine, sweet citrus A bit disappointed with this one, sadly. Definitely a great beer, but not as stellar as I’d hoped (based on ratings , press, awards, etc.)

APPEARANCE: Pours a clear gold color with a medium white head that dissipates at an average rate. Very long lasting lacing. SMELL: Sweet citrus (grapefruit) and pine. Hint of apricot. TASTE: Caramel with pine and citrus. Finish is hoppy but not overpowering. MOUTHFEEL: Medium to full bodied beer with a sticky texture. Fizzy carbonation. DRINKABILITY: This is a great tasting beer. Nice balance of sweet and bitter.
