COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
San Diego IPA
The Sculpin IPA is a testament to our humble beginnings as Home Brew Mart. Founded in 1992, the Mart continues to be a catalyst for the San Diego brewing scene, setting the trend for handcrafted ales. Inspired by our customers, employees and brewers, the Sculpin IPA is bright with aromas of apricot, peach, mango and lemon. Its lighter body also brings out the crispness of the hops. This delicious Ballast Point Ale took a Bronze Medal at the 2007 Great American Beer Festival in the Pro Am category. The Sculpin fish has poisonous spikes on its fins that can give a strong sting. Ironically, the meat from a Sculpin is considered some of the most tasty. Something that has a sting but tastes great, sounds like a Ballast Point India Pale Ale.

Wow. This IPA has a very strong citrus grapefruit taste. I wasn’t able to notice all the subtle flavors because of this, but it was still a good brew. I think I may stick to their big eye for now though.

Aroma is hop and grass. Bronze appearance with medium carbonation. Taste is excellent. Nice caramel sweetness on the front with excellent hop on the end.

Pours a handsome golden color with a slight orange hue. Limited head. Beautiful citrus smells. Floral scents and fresh grass also come through. Crisp hop flavors include grapefruit and pine. Extremely drinkable, very refreshing. Me gusto mucho.

Amber/Yellow in color, with good carbonation and lacing. Smells and tastes of sweet fruit and resin with a hint of hops (leaves a fruity aftertaste) which i enjoy.

True to the label, notes of apricot, peach, mango and lemon are detected in the aroma. There is something floral going on as well, which really elevates my olfactory enjoyment. It pours golden with a textbook soapy IPA head. The taste is very well balanced, not too bitter that it overwhelms the palate. It is a bit thin for the style, but not enough to be penalized. Sculpin is a damn fine American IPA, and should be sampled if you have an opportunity.

22oz bottle courtesy of wavers1. Pours hazy orange with a thin white head that sticks around leaving thick lacing. Aroma is juicy, citrusy hops. A little breadiness in the background. Body is full, but crisp. Flavor is not very bitter, but very hoppy. Again, citrusy, juicy hops without being resiny. A little crisp maltiness in the finish. Incredible IPA!

Pours a nice bright gold with a small white head. Really looks good. Smells of a west coast style IPA. Citrus/Grapefruit/Pine all hit your nose with a gusto. A little grassy too. Piney hop burst up front. Then the malts become slightly detectable while finishing with a lingering dry bitterness. Mouthfeel is fairly light with good carbonation levels. Sculpin has a reputation as one of the best West Coast IPA’s and doesn’t disappoint. The only knock is I would’ve liked a little bit more grapefruitiness to balance out the piney resin, but a small nitpick at that as this beer is still good, just not elite.

Really amazing IPA. Tons of piney citrus on the nose, followed by a crisp taste featuring the same flavors. Nice light copper color with a hearty lasting head. Super beer ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Nearly perfect. Surprised at the lighter color and small head but lacing and retention is impressive. Lemon dominates for both aroma and flavors. Bitterness is well done and not too overwhelming.
