COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
San Diego IPA
The Sculpin IPA is a testament to our humble beginnings as Home Brew Mart. Founded in 1992, the Mart continues to be a catalyst for the San Diego brewing scene, setting the trend for handcrafted ales. Inspired by our customers, employees and brewers, the Sculpin IPA is bright with aromas of apricot, peach, mango and lemon. Its lighter body also brings out the crispness of the hops. This delicious Ballast Point Ale took a Bronze Medal at the 2007 Great American Beer Festival in the Pro Am category. The Sculpin fish has poisonous spikes on its fins that can give a strong sting. Ironically, the meat from a Sculpin is considered some of the most tasty. Something that has a sting but tastes great, sounds like a Ballast Point India Pale Ale.

I paid 17 bucks for a bomber. It did not live up to the hype or the price tag. It was a good IPA however. Golden color, small head, good lacing. Hoppy aroma and slightly tropical. Hop bitterness, hop flavor and tropical fruit are the main flavors. Not as bitter or hoppy as I expected. Smooth finish with minimal hops lingering on the palate. I would like to try this in Cali to ensure freshness.

Liquid gold with a little reddish amber. The citrus and grapefruit punch you in the nose first. Medium boddied with smooth carbonation. Grass, wet hay, grapefruit and lemon assault your tongue and lead the battle against boring brews. This is a great IPA. Very drinkable becasue it isn’t obnoxiuosly bitter.

Thanks to Linus_Stick for sharing. Pour was a nice golden color with a thin white head. Aroma was filled with hops and just a hint of fruit. The taste was just excellent, clean, bitter, and filled with hops that lead you right to a crisp finish that left you wanting more. Definitely a beer I would drink on the regular were it readily available here in PA.

22 oz. bottle poured into a Becker Pint Glass. Ar: Citrus and honey notes with a very slight pine undertone. Ap: Pours a hazy gold with orange highlights. Pure bright white three finger head that takes several minutes to dissipate. Beautiful lacing. T: An opening salvo of juicy orange, grapefruit, and orchid transitioning into smooth slightly sweet malt and closing with a bite of just the right amount of piney hop bitterness and returning to very slight sweet malt. P: Highly carbonated, silky amooth, and just the right amount of body. O: This is an extremely well-balanced and enjoyable IPA. Incredibly easy to drink and full of flavor. I’d love to have a stockpile of Sculpin in the summer. Without a doubt one of the best IPA’s I’ve had.

Pours a handsome golden color with a slight orange hue. Limited head. Beautiful citrus smells. Floral scents and fresh grass also come through. Crisp hop flavors include grapefruit and pine. Extremely drinkable, very refreshing. Me gusto mucho.

Very nice west coast style IPA. Clear and straw colored. Apricot and pine hop flavor with bite. Light toast. Reliably top tier but pricey.

Draft pour at Whip In. Pours clear amber with a white finger head. Sticky white lacing all down the glass. Smells of hops and a variety of sweet fruits ad citrus akin to a great IPA. Flavor is faintly fruity with a full hop and malt balance. Light and enjoyable IPA for any time of year.

Bottle shared at Tkrjukoff’s CCB-day in Sätila. Pours almost clear yellow with a medium sized off-white head. Very fresh hoppy aroma. Hoppy, citrus and pine in the taste, very fresh. Medium bitter finish. Very nice.

Copper color with an average frothy white head that lasted with good lacing. Medium body with a slick texture. Moderate to heavy sour citrus hoppy aroma. Moderate to heavy bittersweet flavor with a moderate to heavy bittersweet finish. Nicely done!

Une bonne IPA, une base savoureuse, un fort accent d’amarillo. Bonne bière mais notation exagéré.
