San Diego IPA
The Sculpin IPA is a testament to our humble beginnings as Home Brew Mart. Founded in 1992, the Mart continues to be a catalyst for the San Diego brewing scene, setting the trend for handcrafted ales. Inspired by our customers, employees and brewers, the Sculpin IPA is bright with aromas of apricot, peach, mango and lemon. Its lighter body also brings out the crispness of the hops. This delicious Ballast Point Ale took a Bronze Medal at the 2007 Great American Beer Festival in the Pro Am category. The Sculpin fish has poisonous spikes on its fins that can give a strong sting. Ironically, the meat from a Sculpin is considered some of the most tasty. Something that has a sting but tastes great, sounds like a Ballast Point India Pale Ale.

Amber color with a modest white head. Aroma is grapefruit / citrus. Taste is clean with a hint of apricot in the finish. An excellent big hop IPA!

Citrusy and fruity aroma. A very crisp clean malt profile. Followed by a wonderful hop bitterness that doesn't punch you in the face. A wonderful west coast style ipa. This was one of the first ipa's that defined the style and it's still one of the best!

Aroma is very citrus sweet grapefruit hopy floral cascade I also get some sort of sweet peach or apricot. Pours a copper color with lots of creamy off white foam. Leaves some lacing and has quit a bit of carbonation. Taste is sweet at first lots of grapefruit little malt and pine. Sits a little bitter towards the end. Some floral tones as well. Overall this is an amazing beer wish I could buy it for my every day beer. Damn it’s good! Thank you Brian.

Pours a golden orange color with a finger length off white head that dissipates slowly and leaves a blanket of lacing. Smells of peach, mango, grapefruit, like an apricot, resin. Nice carmel malt backbone to it. Taste starts and finishes with lots of peach or apricot. Also starts with some mango and grapefruit. Slight bitterness. Then a good amount of carmel and bready malt shine through to balance it. The finish is a nice combination of fruity flavors from the hops: lots of apricot or peach, get some lemon, orange, grapefruit, mango, maybe some other tropical fruits. Medium body with a good amount of carbonation that gives it a refreshing finish. A creamy and resinous mouthfeel. A very balanced, flavorful, and drinkable IPA.

Pours a golden amber. Two fingers of head. Very well balanced IPA. Expected a fruity citrus finish but it was more grass flower and hop notes. Outstanding IPA.

From a 22 oz bottle. Thick creamy head. Pour is a dark orange/amber color. Fruit hop aroma as advertised. Citrus hops are definitely present in the taste. Nice solid hop taste. No afterbite. Although only a 7% ABV the alcohol is well hidden. Good IPA. I would definitely drink again.

Poured into DFH glass. Extremely clear. Dark amber / light copper color. Pillowy, off-white, 4-finger (heheh) head. Thick lacing. Citrusy hops (more orange or lemon than grapefruit or pine), sugary, marmalade smell. Initially sweet. Medium to heavy feel. Pleasant, somewhat scrubbing bubbliness. Finishes dry. Very, very tasty! Possibly one of my new, favorite IPAs!
