San Diego IPA
The Sculpin IPA is a testament to our humble beginnings as Home Brew Mart. Founded in 1992, the Mart continues to be a catalyst for the San Diego brewing scene, setting the trend for handcrafted ales. Inspired by our customers, employees and brewers, the Sculpin IPA is bright with aromas of apricot, peach, mango and lemon. Its lighter body also brings out the crispness of the hops. This delicious Ballast Point Ale took a Bronze Medal at the 2007 Great American Beer Festival in the Pro Am category. The Sculpin fish has poisonous spikes on its fins that can give a strong sting. Ironically, the meat from a Sculpin is considered some of the most tasty. Something that has a sting but tastes great, sounds like a Ballast Point India Pale Ale.

Pours lighter than many IPAs, a golden/copper with good carbonation. Aroma is full of citrus bouquets, sweet with a little bitterness coming through. Taste is well balanced, especially considering the amount of hops that go into this brew. Sweetness is always present with some puckering bitterness, especially near the finish. Mouthfeel is light with nice, crisp carbonation. Overall a great beer within my favorite style that I’m sure to go back to from time to time.

Growler fill from local mart. Aroma is huge floral of citrus, grass and golden malts, a lot of citrus. Taste of tropical fruits soaked in orange and lemon. The sweetness complements the bitterness so well. Can see my self cashing this growler tonight. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

12 oz bottle poured into short wine glass. Light orange color with a small head that dissipates quickly. Enticing aroma of citrus apricots and zest with a hint of pine. Tastes great- orange, and hoppy citrus burst out of this one. Yum An IPA that deserves its high rating ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

The pour is murky but the aroma is immediately enticing. The hoppy, grapefruit and apricot make it an exciting afternoon beer. The taste is tropical, bitter and hoppy: immediately pleasing to the palate.

Poured from bottle. Honey-like gold color with good head retention. Aroma is gentle pine wrapped in sweet tangerine; great balance of earth notes, and sour/sweet fruit. Taste is round, sweet citrus, even apple-y upfront, winds down to an enjoyably hoppy dryness near the end, honeyish malt lingers around to balance it. A bit pricey, but delivers 100% on all fronts.

Poured from a 12oz bottle. This is a very well balanced IPA. Citrus with not a lot of aftertaste.

Phoenix, Houston... Tap. Pours dark amber, foamy head that sticks to glass. Aroma is like weed, floral, pine notes, refreshing. First sip a big of fruit, followed by a hoppy bite. Not too bitter on palate. Aftertaste lingers slightly inviting another nice sip. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Tasted at Ballast Point. Light orange color with a fizzy white head. Good hoppy aroma of pine and citrus. Very good piney hop taste transitioning to a smooth sweet caramel flavor.
