San Diego IPA
The Sculpin IPA is a testament to our humble beginnings as Home Brew Mart. Founded in 1992, the Mart continues to be a catalyst for the San Diego brewing scene, setting the trend for handcrafted ales. Inspired by our customers, employees and brewers, the Sculpin IPA is bright with aromas of apricot, peach, mango and lemon. Its lighter body also brings out the crispness of the hops. This delicious Ballast Point Ale took a Bronze Medal at the 2007 Great American Beer Festival in the Pro Am category. The Sculpin fish has poisonous spikes on its fins that can give a strong sting. Ironically, the meat from a Sculpin is considered some of the most tasty. Something that has a sting but tastes great, sounds like a Ballast Point India Pale Ale.

Pours a clear light amber with two fingers of creamy white head that never completely disappears and leaves excellent lacing. The nose smells of grapefruit and mango with some pine and grass aromas. Taste is of tropical fruit with a herbal component and a grassy bitterness that is strong but not overwhelming. Has the tiniest amount of sweetness but it is perceptible. Mouthfeel is creamy and medium bodied with crisp carbonation. A hop forward and drinkable IPA. ---Jeremy H

Wonderful IPA. Thankfully a bit lighter than some of the west coast over the top hops. Yet still full of a delicious bitterness coupled with softer dried fruit and citrus notes. 7% seems high for this Hall of Fame beer.

Wow! This beer is truly amazing! Bottle poured into a pilsner glass. Pours a clear golden orange with a fairly thick white head. Scents of apple, pine, orange, and floral. Beautiful aroma. Taste is nothing short of amazing. Perfect bitterness. The closest thing I have found to the perfect IPA...yet.

Pours hazy light amber with a big frothy off white head. Aroma has lots of pineapple, pine and grapefruit. Taste is crisp and clean, hops play first fiddle with pineapple, pine and citrus pith, grapefruit bitterness, some pilsner malt. Medium body, medium carbonation, dry mouth feel. Short crisp, dry and bitter after taste.
Great balance, while the malt body isn’t that big, the hops doesn’t overpower while still being very present.

On draft. Sure, this is commonly available all around the country and so ubiquitous that you don’t even notice it in the grocery store anymore. But it’s also a fantastic example of an American IPA. It’s got a really restrained malt profile, which makes it a clean, crisp hop showcase. There’s a firm bitterness mixed with some fruit and pine aromatics from the hops. Classic and really good.

Kolor złoty, praktycznie klarowne. Umiarkowana, biała, drobna piana. Niestety nie mam jeszcze lepszego szkła, które fajniej by ją wyeksponowało. W aromacie potężne uderzenie cytrusów: grejpfrut, mandarynka, pomarańcze i limonki. W tle ziołowe i żywiczne nuty. W oddalo ziołowe i herbaciane nuty. Pijalność fenomenalna. Niesamowia lekkość jak na 7%. Cheers!🍻
