COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
San Diego IPA
The Sculpin IPA is a testament to our humble beginnings as Home Brew Mart. Founded in 1992, the Mart continues to be a catalyst for the San Diego brewing scene, setting the trend for handcrafted ales. Inspired by our customers, employees and brewers, the Sculpin IPA is bright with aromas of apricot, peach, mango and lemon. Its lighter body also brings out the crispness of the hops. This delicious Ballast Point Ale took a Bronze Medal at the 2007 Great American Beer Festival in the Pro Am category. The Sculpin fish has poisonous spikes on its fins that can give a strong sting. Ironically, the meat from a Sculpin is considered some of the most tasty. Something that has a sting but tastes great, sounds like a Ballast Point India Pale Ale.

Pours a clear light amber with two fingers of creamy white head that never completely disappears and leaves excellent lacing. The nose smells of grapefruit and mango with some pine and grass aromas. Taste is of tropical fruit with a herbal component and a grassy bitterness that is strong but not overwhelming. Has the tiniest amount of sweetness but it is perceptible. Mouthfeel is creamy and medium bodied with crisp carbonation. A hop forward and drinkable IPA. ---Jeremy H

Glorious. Pours a glowing orange gold with a thick frothy head of hop based froth. The nose is pure citrus and pine resin with a ton of lemon zest and pineapple. Fruity and sweet with light grapefruit bitterness and caramel malts. Good balance overall with a beauty hop profile that screams fresh.

12 oz. bottle poured into a pint glass. Orange in color, not much in the way of head. Aroma of citrus and pine. Smooth to drink, bitter at first ending with a taste of pine and citrus.

Poured from a bomber, Copper body with a non-lingering head. Smells of citrus and pine. First notes are sweet to a nice hop bite. Another classic from Ballast Point. The feeling of this beer is heavy IPA due to the malt. Some doubles are easier to "session". Yet again this is not a beer to session, but to enjoy.

Bottle from my brother in-law. Pours a copper colour, white fluffy head, lots of lacing. Nose is citrus and sweet caramel malt. Tastes sweet initially that quickly gives way to bitterness, lots of citrus, but mainly piney hops. Quite good, most certainly sessionable.

March Madness 2015 - Light and fruity; I would not have thought of this as an IPA. Not crazy hoppy and bitter like most IPAs though.

March madness 2015. This is one of the IPA archetypes to me. Very nice citrus aroma. Hops and malt are in relative balance although the hops flavor is very strong. It does not have a bitter finish.

A good balance of citrus and bitter. High ABV so watch out. This beer helped make San Diego awesome. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle @Tommy Knocker, Helsinki. Deep frosty golden color with small long lasting white head. Nose has vig, creamy malts and hops. Excellent hops and superbly balanced body. Long tasty finish. One of all time favorites.

Pours a beautiful gold color and has some lacing, but minimal head retention. This beer smells floral and hoppy. It does not disappoint in the least. An amazing beer, and one that is absolutely legendary for a reason. Excellent!

Big and robust. Clean finish. Great balance. The way I envision an IPA to be. Highly recommend!!!
