San Diego IPA
The Sculpin IPA is a testament to our humble beginnings as Home Brew Mart. Founded in 1992, the Mart continues to be a catalyst for the San Diego brewing scene, setting the trend for handcrafted ales. Inspired by our customers, employees and brewers, the Sculpin IPA is bright with aromas of apricot, peach, mango and lemon. Its lighter body also brings out the crispness of the hops. This delicious Ballast Point Ale took a Bronze Medal at the 2007 Great American Beer Festival in the Pro Am category. The Sculpin fish has poisonous spikes on its fins that can give a strong sting. Ironically, the meat from a Sculpin is considered some of the most tasty. Something that has a sting but tastes great, sounds like a Ballast Point India Pale Ale.

Just arrived in the Cincinnati market. The beer was served chilled in a Imperial Pint glass. Ar- This beer has a fantastic hop aroma. Lots and lots of mango, pineapple, citrus, citrus zest and pine in the aroma. Ap- The body of the beer is a peach coloration with a thick creamy white head. Nice head retention and thick streams of lacing mark my glass. T- A major delivery on the aroma to taste. Nice juicy pineapple, citrus, going into deep pine resin bitterness. Very brief malty sweetness that is immediately swallowed up into bitterness. P- The body of the beer is light carbonation is moderate. O- This beer is dam near like cat nip for hop heads. Fresh Sculpin is hard to beat bang for the buck. Nicely executed!

Pours a hazy golden orange with a white head and nice aroma of citrus and hops. Taste is of hops, citrus, and pine, while subtle, with a slight bitter, smooth finish. Very nice IPA, drinkable and great tasting.

UPDATED: JUL 2, 2013 Bottle. Amber with a white head that laces well. Aroma of lemon, kumquat, stone fruits, pineapple. A little oily, but pretty light-bodied. Taste is barely sweet, but quite fruity, with stone and tropical fruits; lemon. Crisp finish with a fair bit of bitterness (although a little more wouldn’t have hurt). Alcohol is dangerously well-hidden. Not interesting to drink, just very good. [4]

A bunch of these about 6 weeks old, if the bb is 150 days. A little more complex than before with some citrus flowers in there with the rest. Probably better within a fortnight, but this is very lovely indeed.
