San Diego IPA
The Sculpin IPA is a testament to our humble beginnings as Home Brew Mart. Founded in 1992, the Mart continues to be a catalyst for the San Diego brewing scene, setting the trend for handcrafted ales. Inspired by our customers, employees and brewers, the Sculpin IPA is bright with aromas of apricot, peach, mango and lemon. Its lighter body also brings out the crispness of the hops. This delicious Ballast Point Ale took a Bronze Medal at the 2007 Great American Beer Festival in the Pro Am category. The Sculpin fish has poisonous spikes on its fins that can give a strong sting. Ironically, the meat from a Sculpin is considered some of the most tasty. Something that has a sting but tastes great, sounds like a Ballast Point India Pale Ale.

A good balance of citrus and bitter. High ABV so watch out. This beer helped make San Diego awesome. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

March madness 2015. This is one of the IPA archetypes to me. Very nice citrus aroma. Hops and malt are in relative balance although the hops flavor is very strong. It does not have a bitter finish.

Bra humlebeska! Gillas skarpt. Flaska från Systembolaget. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

On tap, Finley's Pub, Denver. Pour is a nice Amber/orange, thin white head. Nose is big hop, big citrus, resin, floral. Taste is bitter, medium bodied. Finished very dry on your palate, but still a full bodied taste. Nice IPA. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Orange colour, white head. Aroma of hops, grapefruit. Taste is medium bitter. Medium body, slick texture, soft to average carbonation. Pretty nice.

bottle at home, poured a clear orange to light amber colour with a white head. very nice fruity aroma, grapefruit, citrus, mango, tropical fruits, some sweet malts, nice and full oily mouthfeel, crisp, creamy, nice bitterness in the end. could use some more malt kick to it! but this is very very juicy and refreshing!

Cloudy amber with small beige head. Tremendous and huge aroma - sweetened grapefruit, strong malt, mango, passionfruit, paw paw/papaya. The taste is also huge, non-subtle, but awesome, with the same flavours that the smell assaults with. Light in body and ridiculously drinkable. In no way understated but an artful hop punch in the face.

Had this on tap. Really solid IPA. Dry and piney. Decent bitterness. Not much malt, which I like. I could a lot of this brew. As far as IPA goes this one fits the bill for me.

Bottle. Nose is bright summery; peach, mango, lychee, sweet floral note. Taste is citrus, grapefruit, tropical fruit, spruce, onion, very light resin the bitterness comes from the emerging grapefruit rind. A little to fizzy for me. It’s a class leading American IPA.
