San Diego IPA
The Sculpin IPA is a testament to our humble beginnings as Home Brew Mart. Founded in 1992, the Mart continues to be a catalyst for the San Diego brewing scene, setting the trend for handcrafted ales. Inspired by our customers, employees and brewers, the Sculpin IPA is bright with aromas of apricot, peach, mango and lemon. Its lighter body also brings out the crispness of the hops. This delicious Ballast Point Ale took a Bronze Medal at the 2007 Great American Beer Festival in the Pro Am category. The Sculpin fish has poisonous spikes on its fins that can give a strong sting. Ironically, the meat from a Sculpin is considered some of the most tasty. Something that has a sting but tastes great, sounds like a Ballast Point India Pale Ale.

This beer is freaking great. Strong hoppy flavor, nice bite in the middle of the taste, and smells wonderful! This is a must drink beer!

Ticked this before but never rated. Not sure why. I’ve had cases before and two kegs of it. Funny how that happens. Pour is orange in color, always a nice generous white to off-white colored head, solid retention, some ringed lacing too. The aroma is citrus, pine, tropical fruits, faint spicey notes. Flavor follows, grapefruit rind-like bitterness, the tropical, peachy lighter fruits (berries even?) all do wonders for this thing. Darn, this thing is beautifully bitter at the same time. Full body, moderate carbonation. A delight, a studly IPA, among my top 3 or 5 area-obtainable IPAs in life.... ever....

This is an amazing, clean, crisp, complex, delicious IPA. Full spectrum of hop aromas and flavors: pine resin, melon, pineapple, orange, lemon grass along with a slight sweet malty base.

Malt aroma w/hints of mango. Taste has bitterness, followed by malt, followed by hop taste of orange/grapefruit awesomeness. Carbonation is a little much on the tongue. Color is yellow with orange hues and is brilliantly clear.

I know that we are not to rate on style, but purely on if we like it. Too bad. Even though I am not a fan of west-coast hop bombs, I must say that this is one of the best highly-hopped brews out there. Lots of apricot and citrus. Amazing aroma. Hard to find, but worth the search. Did I mention the aroma? Wow.

Crisp citrus and pine hops balanced perfectly with not overly sweet malt. Possibly my new favorite IPA. Damn fine beer.

Taste is an explosion of tropical fruits with pine and earthy grassy flavors . All the complex flavors are balanced eqaully. Silky smooth mouthfeel. Delicious.

This is a fantastic IPA, one of the few that holds its own with Pliny the Elder. The combo of a smooth IPA with the fruit notes make for a great finish. Make it a point to try this beer ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Aroma is pineapple peach hops. Looks refreshing with a nice tight head. This beer is amazing! Great hop flavor though not super bitter. I will drink this again for sure.
