Our Grapefruit Sculpin is the latest take on our signature IPA. Some may say there are few ways to improve Sculpin’s unique flavor, but the tart freshness of grapefruit perfectly complements our IPA’s citrusy hop character. Grapefruit’s a winter fruit, but this easy-drinking ale tastes like summer.

12oz bottle with no glass to see appearance. Huge aromas of grapefruit, grape fruit, and more grapefruit, lemongrass, and slight biscuits. Flavors of a mellow geapefruit, lemon juice, and fruity hops, Citra maybe? Very refreshing, smooth finish, faint dry palate. Would be great in hot weather.

DATE: October 21, 2016... OCCASION: watching the Hamilton special on PBS with the family... GLASSWARE: Howard’s Pub pint... a robust orange amber body raises confident bubbles at a constant rate... the two-finger head is thick, white, and lacing like a picket fence of cloud cover... yes, the grapefruit is the soup du jour, but a refreshing sense of lemon, an earthiness and flowery uplift that is winning... sweetness comes in an undercurrent of bread malts... mouth feel is incredibly sessionable, medium-bodied, active at the teeth but balanced enough... the aftertaste is ebullient, with plenty of staying power... flavor profile includes the aforementioned grapefruit, with lemon, orange, bread, and earthy hops... the much lauded Sculpin is given a fruity, Pacific island kind of feel, with enough strength to create a buzz after only a few... does not disappoint...

Maris (1394) - Canberra, AUSTRALIA - OCT 15, 2016
From a 355ml bottle on 15/10/2016, Pours a clear lightish golden with a medium head. The nose is light tropical and citrus and grapefruit. The taste features sweet citrus and tropical fruit, with heaps of melon note, followed by a big, firm grapefruit bitterness. Medium bodied with average carbonation. This really is quite different to the standard Sculpin, but still very tasty. It does have a fresh, zesty, summery feel to it, Impressive.

Lagerboy (1962) - British Columbia, CANADA - OCT 12, 2016
355 ml bottle. Clear light copper, mostly fading off-white foam. Pungent grapefruit, forest fruity hop aroma. Taste is juicy grapefruit, bitter resinous floral piney hop, leaner pale malt, some caramel hints, some tropical sweetness later on. Average carbonation, medium bodied, aggressively hopped. Not quite as awesome as the other Sculpins I’ve tried so far. NFL (Not For Lagerboys)

Bottle:   Bright orange hued golden, moderate carbonation, small foamy white head, spotty lacing.   Semi-sweet grapefruit rind on the nose.   A little bit of tea leaves and general hoppiness.   Smooth on the tongue, nice grapefruity like bitterness with a mild citrusy sweetness.   Very clean.   Lingering pith and peel, sweet and bitter, very well balanced.   Nearly as good as the original.   Very enjoyable and clean!

Bottle at home. Has a slightly hazy orange colour with an off-white head. Aroma of grapefruit, orange peel, sweet candy, grass and dry hay. Very fruity. Fruity is also the flavour with a little more grassy hops along with lots of grapefruit, orange peel and some pine. Has a slick mouth feel, medium body bitterness. A very fruity and nice IPA. A bit one-dimensional but quite fresh.

Clear amber. Aroma is grapefruit juice, grassy hops. Bitterness is heavier than i had hoped, hoppiness seems down, grapefruit juice is present. Overall pretty decent but not entirely sure if these bottles are super fresh.
