COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Sea Monster Imperial Stout is a new version of an old favorite. This hearty stout is black as the abyss and clocks in at a whopping 10% ABV, a real monster. The flavors of roasted coffee and bittersweet chocolate are complamented by a velvety smoothness from the addition of un-malted barley and oats. Colombus and Amarillo hops help to balance out the huge malt character of this flavor bomb. Be careful the alcohol is well hidden and will sneak up on you if you don’t watch out. Like most scary monsters, it can be a little intimidating, but have no fear.

Bottle 65 cl. Courtesy of fordest. Pours a clear black with a warming reddish hue and a dense, light brown head. Fat vinous aroma of roasted malt. Quite full-bodied, hard roasted malts, vinous touches and plenty of dried fruit with an edge of licorice. A lightly malt bitter finish. One of the fruitier and smoother impys. 010509

Bottles thanks to a couple of traders - thanks! Aroma has some nice roasty chocolate with cream and coffee hints. Flavor has a nice hop bite with lots of roasty coffee and milky chocolate. Nice Impy Stout.

bottle poured a deep black in color with a frothy espresso like dark tan head. aroma has dark malt, molasses sweetness, dark chocolate, dark rich fruit, and a bit of oats only because I was looking. heavy thick body with low carbonation. flavor has dark roasted malt, fermented dark fruit, molasses, bitter coffee, and chocolate. the oats thicken up the body but don’t soften the blow as this comes off with plenty of punch. rich and hearty with hops poking in as the glass went on.

Deep ocean black with nice but fading mocha head. Raisiny, vineous aromas waft off the top with cassis and figs qaulities jiving with the musty piney dustyness and woodsy hop quality. There is a choclate smooth touch which is sharply contrasted with a bittering and woody hop backbone to provide a wide gamut of experience, yet the transitions between experiences are a tad sharp and stuttered, although the spectrum of flavor is amazing and far reaching. Other words this brew be good but rough ’round the edges.

22oz bomber, no date. $8.99 @ Ledger’s Liquors. Pours a thick clear deep brown with a one finger tan head, pretty good retention. . Clean roasted malts (nothing burnt) up front with some pine and citrus hops. Chocolate chips and some yeasty dough are behind. There is also some spicy alcohol. Flavor did add a little bit of burnt black patent malts, as well as some more chocolate. As it warmed I did get a little soy as well. Roasty semi-dry finish with bitterness at a 3. Full body with light prickly carbonation. Pretty good impy--Peruvian Morning was much better, though.

Thanks to whoever sent me this in trade, I’m way too lazy to look for it now, but at any rate... This was a really smooth imperial stout. Not quite as full-bodied as some, but delicious nonetheless.
