Sea Monster Imperial Stout is a new version of an old favorite. This hearty stout is black as the abyss and clocks in at a whopping 10% ABV, a real monster. The flavors of roasted coffee and bittersweet chocolate are complamented by a velvety smoothness from the addition of un-malted barley and oats. Colombus and Amarillo hops help to balance out the huge malt character of this flavor bomb. Be careful the alcohol is well hidden and will sneak up on you if you don’t watch out. Like most scary monsters, it can be a little intimidating, but have no fear.

A brown, almoust black, liquid pouring down the glass. One finger high, beige-brown, head. Almoust no lacing. Nose: Dark syrup, soy sauce, vanilla, brown sugar, banana, cream and roasted malt. Taste: Roasted malt, honey, dark chocolate, hazelnuts, pumpernickel, soy sauce, coffee grounds, dried fruit and oak. A full body with almoust no carbonation. The alcohol is well hidden. GREAT beer!

Ooh, kinda pours like a Guinness with a slow rising brown head, decently solid, but not cream stout style like them English things. Hoppy aroma of barley, or perhaps barleyey aroma of hops. Hmmm. Flavour is a sharp hit of coffee with an oily sharp hop finish. Big and a good punch in the face, well made, like a big ol’ soup of molasses with cigarette butts mixed in. I like me a good kick in the face once in awhile.

22 oz bottle from Shaw’s, poured in a goblet, dark brown with a thin tan head with sticky lacing. Dark chocolate aroma, full bodied. Mostly chocolate on the palate with a bitter cocoa finish. Overall on the sweet side, alcohol not overly apparent.

Aroma is roasted malts, caramel ,licorice, fig, and toffee. Taste is rich dark malts, caramel, and light tart. Finishes with some light tartiness and some oats. Almost chewy in mouthfeel. Appearance is black with a medium brown head that retains quite well.

DWF; Bottle 650ML, from Vinmonopolet. Pours moderate to large, black with a creamy, lasting and lacing tan head. Nose is heavy, roasted, malt, dark chocolate, coffee, moderate dark dried fruit, ripe dark berries and light ash. Taste is heavy sweet and bitter, balancing with lasting bitter, roasted warming finish. Body is medium to full, texture is oily to creamy, carbonation is soft.
