Sea Monster Imperial Stout is a new version of an old favorite. This hearty stout is black as the abyss and clocks in at a whopping 10% ABV, a real monster. The flavors of roasted coffee and bittersweet chocolate are complamented by a velvety smoothness from the addition of un-malted barley and oats. Colombus and Amarillo hops help to balance out the huge malt character of this flavor bomb. Be careful the alcohol is well hidden and will sneak up on you if you don’t watch out. Like most scary monsters, it can be a little intimidating, but have no fear.

UPDATED: FEB 21, 2014 Pint glass. Light aroma, subtle alcohol smell. Dark brown, thick with dark brown head that runs the outer ring of he glass. Quick alcohol taste hit, molasses sweet and the right amount of bitter, typical in my mind of a quality imperial stout. I like my imperials high in alcohol, that pops the pallet, finishes smooth and this one hits the spot.

appearance: silky near black, with a big, creamy, medium tan head. aroma: milk and dark chocolate, molasses, soy sauce, espresso, herbal hops. taste: dark chocolate pudding, espresso, vanilla, wood, caramel, molasses, soy sauce, slightly citrus hops. finish: fulsome, silky, with boozy heat not shy about joining the party. notes: A big, rich stout. I like them a little more balanced, a little less boozy. Still excellent. Bottle from Sarah for Beerthday 2015.

Bottle that I had purchased several years ago. Even though the "enjoy by" date was a year and half ago, age has not harmed this beer! Pours an opaque black with a tan head that dissipates rapidly leaving a moderate amount of lacing. Aroma is coffee forward. Taste follows suit with undertones of chocolate, annis and dark fruits. Overall, a very good imperial stout.

A very nice imperial. Dark brown pour, frothy tan head. Palate more like storm king - on the regular stout end, but flavor is imperial. Roasted coffee and dark chocolate notes. Decent finish. Very drinkable 10% alcohol well hidden.

On tap at hearthstone pub. Pours opaque dark brown, nearly black with a small tan head. Flavor and aroma are coffee, cocoa and booze. Almost tasted oak aged to me, even though it’s not. A very fine stout.
