Sea Monster Imperial Stout is a new version of an old favorite. This hearty stout is black as the abyss and clocks in at a whopping 10% ABV, a real monster. The flavors of roasted coffee and bittersweet chocolate are complamented by a velvety smoothness from the addition of un-malted barley and oats. Colombus and Amarillo hops help to balance out the huge malt character of this flavor bomb. Be careful the alcohol is well hidden and will sneak up on you if you don’t watch out. Like most scary monsters, it can be a little intimidating, but have no fear.

Opaque black with a thin brown head. Very silly body with necessarily medium-high carbonation.

Aroma: dark chocolate, fresh coffee, carob, black malt, brown malt, dark crystal fruit notes, a bit of silage, and subtle alcohol.

Taste: black malt, dark crystal malt, brown malt, dark chocolate, nutty oats, balanced hop bitterness, grassy silage notes, hints of licorice.

Great balance between sweetness, silkiness, hop bitterness, and roasted malt bitterness/acidity. Rich and complex, with many flavors, not melding, but all playing perfectly off each other. Excellent beer -wouldn’t change a thing!

22 oz bottle. Aroma: malty, roasty, and boozy, with hints of chocolate and leather. Taste/Palate: creamy and sweet; finishes slightly astringent. Best beer I have ever had. Seriously.

Pours warm coffee-brown with a thick head on the light side of tan. Aroma has roast malt, mocha, molasses, and subtle toffee notes. Flavor is, WHOA, a monster! Bold smoky, quality coffee, semi-sweet chocolate, roast malt, molasses and caramel flavors flow across the palate and leave a lasting impression of a world-class RIS. Thick, heavy texture has decent fizz, and goes down the pipes well. Challenge this monster.

Bottle at Ölrepubliken. Very well balanced stout, perfect maltiness and hoppiness. Chocolate and coffee flavours. One of the best beers I have had!

Not as good as Victory At Sea, but still very good Imperial Stout. Black as night. Deep dark roasted coffee flavor. Median thick mouthfeel. Lacing less than I would like for this heavy of a beer. Some reviews say too hoppy. However, imperial stouts are hopped heavily by tradition to preserve them on the long voyages to market "back in the day" so do your research jack wagons. Pours pitch black with a tiny tan fizz. Smells roasty, coffee, hints of chocolate. Taste is roast, coffee, licorice, and hints of chocolate. Full-bodied with a slick texture and soft mouth-carbonation, Ballast Point Sea Monster Imperial Stout finishes with a crisp dryness.

22oz bottle. This is my vote for the best stout of 2008. Pours dark brown black with a thin, light brown head. Smells dark and malty sweet with some chocolate and slight roast. Tastes deep and dark malty sweet, dark but sweet chocolate and some alcohol. Beautiful. Full, syrupy, but super smooth body, good carbonation.

Bomber thanks to MrBunn and indirectly to GorditoAbd...Pours incredibly black with the thinnest of dark tan head. I first off get a snootful of chocolate, plums, booze, vanilla and a hint of tobacco. Flavor is just outstanding and match the nose to a tee, but the booze is better hidden than I first thought. Smooth and creamy and Deeeeeeelicious.
