COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Sea Monster Imperial Stout is a new version of an old favorite. This hearty stout is black as the abyss and clocks in at a whopping 10% ABV, a real monster. The flavors of roasted coffee and bittersweet chocolate are complamented by a velvety smoothness from the addition of un-malted barley and oats. Colombus and Amarillo hops help to balance out the huge malt character of this flavor bomb. Be careful the alcohol is well hidden and will sneak up on you if you donít watch out. Like most scary monsters, it can be a little intimidating, but have no fear.

Bomber. Pours inky black with a medium tan head with good retention. Aroma is a little muted right now--hopefully it will open up--but itís a little doughy, a little like pepperoni pizza (WTF?), vanilla, toasted marshmallow. Taste is sweet and a little tart, finishing lightly bitter. Has a bit of an alcoholic chocolate milk flavor; tobacco/ash come out after it warms up. Mouthfeel is creamy, body is a little thinner than it should be for something of this caliber. This is good, but it seems pretty basic for an impy stout. Itís hard to believe that the same brewers who created such an unforgettable dark beer as Victory at Sea created such a pedestrian brew as this. Itís not bad--itís actually pretty good--just a little average after tasting that aforementioned beer right before this.

UPDATED: JUL 8, 2016 Pint at Vultureís Lane. Inky black with little for the nose but a lot for the tongue. Tastes as inky black as it looks, with tonnes of malts. Some soy as well.

Poured from a 22 OZ bomber into a pint glass. Pure black color with a rich tan to brown head. smooth taste heavy with malt and chocolate. The high ABV is noticeable but blends well with the flavor.

A really nice looking monster. Black, with a decent beige head that is somewhat rare in an Imperial Stout. The aroma is full of roasted malt, chocolate and oak. Taste brings a bitterness from the coffe. Long warming finish.

BOD 355/15. Pitch black pour. World class head volume, lacing and retention. Outstanding light nose of bakerís chocolate, roast, molasses and a hint of dark fruit (plum, currant). Medium body that is smooth but lacks any hint of being creamy. A bit under carbonated for the body but has a fairly effervescent middle and the finish approaches prickly. The flavor profile is outstanding...especially as it approaches room temperature. The flavor is slightly blended throughout, but separation occurs in the middle and beyond. It begins with a blend of coffee and roast that flows to the middle. Here a rather sweet molasses and caramel take center stage with bitter chocolate playing a supporting role. Hops appear as well adding another layer of complexity and a mild bitterness. Underneath, dark fruit (plum and light currant) gain strength and briefly rise to the surface, as a sea monster should. As the finish approaches, the 10% alcohol rears its head in terms of heat and light astringency. The finish is a slow slightly sweet fade of molasses that succumbs to grain alcohol flavor and astringency.

Pretty weak appearance.... Just dark with a flimsy beige head. Love the aroma.... Roasted coffee, milk chocolate, some mint. Nice crispness on the tongue....heavy malts, nice chocolate sweetness with a hoppy shell.

Pours a jet black. Aromas of espresso/chocolate and roasted malts. Taste dark roasted coffee and bittersweet chocolate malt with a nice bitter bite.

I poured it from the bottle into a glass. It pours black with a tan head and little lacing. The aroma is chocolate, coffee, leather, and alcohol. The taste is chocolate, molasses, coffee, and alcohol. Itís thick and syrupy with a bitter and booze bite to it. This drinks strong and heavy. I thought it was a very nice sipping beer though.
