3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bomber. Pours inky black with a medium tan head with good retention. Aroma is a little muted right now--hopefully it will open up--but itís a little doughy, a little like pepperoni pizza (WTF?), vanilla, toasted marshmallow. Taste is sweet and a little tart, finishing lightly bitter. Has a bit of an alcoholic chocolate milk flavor; tobacco/ash come out after it warms up. Mouthfeel is creamy, body is a little thinner than it should be for something of this caliber. This is good, but it seems pretty basic for an impy stout. Itís hard to believe that the same brewers who created such an unforgettable dark beer as Victory at Sea created such a pedestrian brew as this. Itís not bad--itís actually pretty good--just a little average after tasting that aforementioned beer right before this.

4.1 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle: Thanks Stawn: Served in a Chouffe glass:
Medium to smaller sized creamy vanilla beige light brown foamy head on top of a deep dark brown to black colored beer.
Aroma has a strong (pils) malty tone which makes this beer having it a somewhat crispy aroma. Thereís honey, mocha, marzipan, roast, some coffee, some chocolate, caramel and hints of something like marshmellows and vinous notes.
Flavour is a bit strong in taste and spice (alcohol) but on the other hand, this makes it a good stout! Thereís a mix of cough syrup with some coffee, bitters, malt toast/roast, some caramel, wood roast, light sticky, raisin and some caramel and light bay leaf tints.
Aftertaste is bitter, sticky, roast, spicy and some bay leaf/malt/herbal toast tones.
Low carbo, creamy mouthfeel, full bodied and a spicy creamy texture.
A good and bit ordinary stout, yet balanced and strong.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Sampled from a 0.65l bottle @ RBNG 2014. As close to black as you get without calling it black this. It also has a small quickly sidesticking brown top. Tad milder nose than I had expected. It it quite roasted and itís giving me elements of licorice, leather, salty soy and mild chocolate. Smells quite nice this. Lovely rich and strong flavors. Lots of bitter chocolate with loads of licorice. Salty licorice and soy. Gliding oily in the mouth and softly prickling on t bubbles. Lots and lots of flavor. Yeah, its not bad at all this. 15.02.2014

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
UPDATED: JUL 15, 2014 Bomber bottle. Pours black with a thin head. Aroma has notes of dark malts, chocolate, a hint of smoke and caramel, and a bit of dark fruits. Really nice. Taste is a bit sweet but balanced with some dark fruits, caramel, roasted malts, a hint of bitter chocolate, and an smooth, slightly coffee finish. Not really a lot of alcohol. Really well done. Full most with a medium carbonation. Smooth in the mouth with a dry finish. Overall a big beer. Roasted malts with a caramel sweetness and a hint of coffee. Yum!

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle shared in London - thanks to Caspar. Pours black-brown with a frothy, off-white head. The nose has sugary malts, chocolate, soft roast, dark fruits. Medium sweet flavor with raisins, bittersweet chocolate, burnt earth, torched wood. Medium to full bodied with fine to average carbonation. More bitter cocoa to finish, dried dark fruits, char, strong roast, burnt toast, some alcohol warmth. Very solid.

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle thanks to Caspar. It pours darkest ruby with a thick tan head. The nose is rich, roasty, coffee, dark chocolate, earth, dirt, creamy and cocoa. The tats is bitter, roasted malt, cocoa, coffee, decent bitterness, pepper, earth, ash and some acidity with a lingering roasty finish. Medium body and moderate carbonation. Rich and flavoursome, yet rather drinkable...

Bottle. Pours darker brown in color with a beige head. Quite strong coffee roasted notes in aroma, some dark chocolate and leathery notes as well are present. Roasted coffee and chocolate mostly in taste. Something sharp as well. Decent.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle from South Bay Drugs: Rich and robust aroma of roasted down malts that serge in a coffee style of scent. Pure black and opaque color with a creamy topping of head that seems to retreat fairly fast. The flavor is so sweet and rich with black malt that this really out does the previous predecessor of sea monster. In fact, for the longest time I didnít even know this was classified as a different recipe then regular sea monster stout and I have purchased a few bottles already wondering why this yearís batch tasted so much better. Well, it now all makes sense to me since there is a ton more malts roasted down and added and the alcohol heats up more and makes me have to swallow it like a table spoon of sweet tasty childrenís cough syrup. Very peculiar how this reminds me of a grape flavor cough remedy medicine but in the end I enjoy this beer to the end.

4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
22 oz bottle into a snifter. The pour is a nice black color with a thick dark espresso foam colored head and some great lacing left behind. The aroma is a little bitter for what I was expecting. There is a strong cocoa presence to go along with a great roasted malt note. There is just a touch of coffee. It is a little light. The flavor is very roasty. The coffee comes through a bit more on this, and there is a hint of vanilla. The back end offers a lot of bitterness and licorice that I didn't see coming. The mouth feel is a bit thin, and the medium carbonation helps a little. And aftertaste is lingering and bitter, resounding of roasty licorice.

Boozy aroma - super toasty roasted malts - surprisingly medium bodied only but makes this an easy drinker - well balanced - an enjoyable behemoth without being great.
