3.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
From a 22oz bottle poured into a snifter. Inky black with a moderate brown head that dissipated over the next two minutes. Nice lacing on the glass as I drink this. Aroma is first chocolate, then a mellow roasted coffee takes over. Hint of caramel. Lightly bitter, full body and thick on the palate. A little sticky. Very nice, but just short of great. If only a couple of it’s traits would have been more aggressive, especially in the aroma, this would have easily been a 4+ for sure. That said, it’s very enjoyable and I think would be easy to drink for someone who is not accustomed to imperial stouts. 10% ABV, but no hint of alcohol at all. I’ve read other reviews that said this was rather boozy. But those were likely other versions of this beer that are brewed in whiskey and rum barrels as special editions. Trust me ... the alcohol is completely hidden, which to me, in a beer, is a good thing.

3.7 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Black with a big tan head. Aroma is a bit boozy with some bitter chocolate. Flavor is very strong and bitter with a big hit of booze in the finish. Bittersweet chocolate and some hops make it pretty bitter throughout.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bomber with a kickass label and a date stamp that I think reads 15026. Pitch black pour with a tan head. Beautiful appearance. Lots of coffee and roast on the aroma with a hint of ash tray. Very roasty flavor, coffee, and pretty bitter but not astringent. Medium bodied mouthfeel. Finishes clean and dry. Solid.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
650ml bottle. Jet black colour with late awakening, huge, thick, creamy, fairly lasting, moderately lacing, beige head. Roasty, dark malty aroma, notes of coffee and liquorice, leather, oak, subtle hints of treacle, resinous and piney hoppy overtones. Taste is slightly sweet dark malty, resinous hoppy, orange and grapefruit combined with dark chocolate. Relatively light and drinkable for its 10% abv.

3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
A good example of the style. Very strong coffee flavor with a bit of chocolate that over powers everything but the bitter hop finish. Not much sugar flavor, a touch of booziness.

3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle. Pours an opaque black with a layer of toffee colored head. Aroma of roasted malts and some coffee. The taste really shows the balance of the coffee/chocolate with the oatmeal. Very drinkable with a deceptive abv.
