badlizard (1373), San Diego, California, USA Jul 11, 2008 On tap at brewery. Black with a creamy tan head. Chocolate and whiskey aroma. Bright palate. Tangy citrus, milk chocolate, roasty, and mildly whiskey taste. Foolish_Mortal (931), San Diego, California, USA Oct 21, 2007 Tap at 11th anniversary. Opaque black with a thick tan nitro head. Heavy hazelnut and bakers chocolate aroma. Mocha, chocolate flavors up front. Prominant vanilla, liquor character combines with rich malty sweetness. Nutty sweetness lasts in the finish, with hints of coffee and the last vestiges of the barrel characters. Mouthfeel is heavy, slick, and smooth. wetherel (883), Carlsbad, California, USA Oct 20, 2007 Tried from tap at Ballast Point’s 11th anniversary celebration. Bourbon barrel on nitro. The most popular with the crowd. Pitch black color. Great tan microbubble head (of course with nitro), but reduced aroma from the nitro. When tasted, the aroma is more apparent..some bourbon, sweet malt, and some vanilla. Sweet. delicious. Super easy to drink. No roastiness. My second favorite of the event. cbkschubert (1518), Skyline, Arizona, USA Jun 19, 2007 On tap @ Stone for "Meet the brewers of CA" night (on nitro) - IMO, the best beer of the evening. Pours a dark brown color with a thin creamy light tan head that lasts to the finish. Nice lacing. Aroma is roasted malt, chocolate, vanilla, and oak/bourbon. Flavor was exactly the same. No one component overpowered the other. A very smooth, medium to full body beer. My wife really liked this one too. An excellent beer. elnadeau (782), Laguna Niguel, California, USA Oct 16, 2006 Tap at the brewery’s 10th anniversary celebration. Love the nitro display for this pour. Aroma of roasty malt, coffee and a hint of bourbon. Flavor follows nose with a smooth and creamy mouthfeel. Very nice.
