4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 StefanSD (1797) - Lakeside, California, USA - SEP 13, 20092 ounce taster at the brewery. Pours an opaque black color with a small tan head. The aroma is whiskey, vanilla and chocolate. The taste is pretty much the same as the aroma; lots of chocolate, mellow whiskey, some green apple, roasted malts and vanilla. The alcohol is well hidden. The palate is smooth and creamy with soft carbonation. The finish is long with lingering bourbon. Overall: A very fine BA stout.

On cask at rock n brew in manhattan beach. Pours black with a thick tan head which was gone quickly. Slight lacing but not terribly interesting in that regard. Cask temperature helped get t the aromas quickly. Obvious liquor and chocolate. Barrel was prominent. Aroma and flavor similar but a bit more bitter than i expected. Palate was ok but not what i would expect from a beer this big. Certainly a good beer and worth imbibing

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 Mora2000 (4042) - McKinney, Texas, USA - APR 13, 2013
On tap at the Moth. Black with a tan head. The aroma is full of whiskey and chocolate. The flavor is similar. I get some charred oak notes at first, but those are quickly replaced by some big chocolate and whiskey notes. There is also a little bit of anise like I get in the regular version of this beer. Medium to thick mouthfeel and medium carbonation.
4.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20 skmikeg (429) - Poway, California, USA - FEB 9, 2013
On tap at Old Grove. Pours a pitch black with a small kakhi head with decent lacing. Aroma is of bourbon, roasted malts, bakers coco, and some dark fruits. Taste is of bourbon, roasted malts, coco, some coffee, dark fruits caramel, some molasses, and a little booze. Has a medium-full body with a creamy, velvety mouthfeel, and a semi bitter, slighty boozy finish. Overall, a tasty BBA stout that is actually better then the orginal.

Deep black in color with nice tan head. Vanilla, coconut and caramel aroma. Boozy tones over those nice bourbony flavors and with a sweet roastiness.
4.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20 kathouse (574) - Nevada, USA - JAN 19, 2013
black with a thick brown foam. Lots of cocoa and coffee on the nose along with some wood and vanilla notes. Nice body to support the bourbon flavors. Coffee and roast finish this one off.
4.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 Slipstream (1776) - USA - DEC 26, 2012
On tap at Capone’s. I continue to be a big fan of Ballast Point’s big beers. This was rich and flavorful, with the bourbon helping the sea monster to be its very best. Superb!
4.5 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20 DocLock (6800) - Lower Pottsgrove, Pennsylvania, USA - DEC 1, 2012
Tap at Capone’s. Poured thick jet black with minimal tan head that goes away quickly. Nose is cacao, roasty dark malt, oaky bourbon. Tastes rich, pretty thick and complex on the palate, with the wood and bourbon not overpowering the beer, but rather helping the base product along. I gave the regular Sea monster a score of 4.3, and I see this as a few tenths better, and so damned smooth.
4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 16/20 dmac (3168) - Toms River, New Jersey, USA - NOV 24, 2012
Nitro pour at Capone’s Black Friday event. Poured a great looking pitch black silky body underneath a smooth velvety light beige head. Aroma of bourbon, vanilla, roastiness, slight chocolate, and a touch of heavily roasted coconut. The body is so smooth and sliky with minimal carbonation and a touch of heat on the end. Flavor is roasty overall with an iniital burst of bourbon, vanilla, slight dark chocolate, burnt toast and a lingering aftertaste that is just phenomenal. Another great beer and the nitro pour really adds to this one.

Nitro pour at Matty C’s. Amazing lineup for a one day event. Pours a dark brown almost black with creamy, swirly latte head. Really a cool looking beer from above. Aromas of milk chocolate, light coffee roast, sweet malts, whoppers, and a touch of JB. Mouthfeel is as smooth as can be. Awesome beer.
