Malzig-dunkler und prickelnder Antrunk, minimal bitter. Hier noch leicht schokoladig, zum Abgang wird dies sprunghaft intensiver. Etwas herb, mittel-aromatisch. Füllend malziger Abgang. 11/9/8/9/9/9

UPDATED: DEC 31, 2011 Had at The Monk’s private tasting. Pours nearly black with some very dark brown edges. Small beige head is formed. Smell is of coffee and very rich chocolate, that resembling 80% cocoa chocolate. Fantastic palate, very thick mouth feel. Thick cocoa and fudge mix with coffee in the taste. Very pleasant. Warms on the way down and just adds to the never ending linger. Good stout

Bottle shared at a recent BA/RB tasting... Poured near black with a little bit of light red showing at the edges with a beige head. Contrary to the aesthetic of this stout, it was surprisingly thick on the palate with some nose booze tones. Flavors of cocoa, fudge, chocolate pudding with mild roast and even some yeast tartness. Anise spice, oats, oak and a little bit of acidity.

Bottle at a recent BA/RB tasting. Colour... nearly black with little head. Nose... reminiscent of chocolate milk, especially a blend of Nestle Quik, Ovaltine and Hershey’s Syrup. Palate... quite frothy and chocolate-like then an odd metallic hint and finish come in to the game. Bummer to end on that note!

nice stout pours Berkeley dark brown almost black. Smell is of rich chocolate and espresso. Taste is dark chocolate, burnt coffee, roasted malts and some bitter hops. All in all a decent stout and would definitely drunk it again. Nothing even close to the bourbon barrel aged version but much better than the rum oak chip version.

750ml bottle shared with dosbeerigos. In my opinion this is what a stout is suppose to taste/look like. Dark black pour with a brownish bubbly head. Good carbonation with an oily lacing. Aroma is full of chocolate and hints of coffee. Flavor is malty, chocolaty and bitter. Just straight forward, up front goodness.

Pours dark black/brown/red– just slightly less dark than most imperial stouts, so that light can get through. One finger foamy tan head, good retention. Dark fruit is dominant in the aroma, alongside coffee and charred malts. Taste follows on this, adding a bittersweet chocolate finish. Medium body (light for an imperial stout); moderate carbonation. Slightly too sweet to be wholly enjoyable, but good nonetheless, and worth a try.
