Thanks to dirty_martni. Black pour, big brown head that stays. Aroma is sweet chocolate and a touch of coffee. Flavor is bittersweet chocolate, a hint of espresso, and a nice smooth caramel finish with some citrus hops in the end. Medium slick bodied with a good amount of carbonation and tame for 8%. Just a great example of a stout, very tasty.

UPDATED: DEC 31, 2011 Had at The Monk’s private tasting. Pours nearly black with some very dark brown edges. Small beige head is formed. Smell is of coffee and very rich chocolate, that resembling 80% cocoa chocolate. Fantastic palate, very thick mouth feel. Thick cocoa and fudge mix with coffee in the taste. Very pleasant. Warms on the way down and just adds to the never ending linger. Good stout

750ml bottle shared with dosbeerigos. In my opinion this is what a stout is suppose to taste/look like. Dark black pour with a brownish bubbly head. Good carbonation with an oily lacing. Aroma is full of chocolate and hints of coffee. Flavor is malty, chocolaty and bitter. Just straight forward, up front goodness.

Bottle from Smith’s. Pours dark blackish w 1f tan head. Nose is heavy dark malt, black currant, cacao, coffee, anise, oats. Tastes of dark choc, malt, black currant, and merloty. Stay very fruity, malty, and curranty. A unique stout, and the anglerfish is a nice touch.

Bottle. Poured an opaque black color with a light brown head. Smelled of plum, chocolate, and subdued cinnamon. Interesting. Medium bodied, slightly sweet, and fairly effervescent. Tasted of cola, cocoa, and toffee with a hint of vanilla.
