On tap at their place in little Italy. Pours a fairly clear yellow. Aroma is smoke with some floral and slight lemon. Nice beer but tastes salty. Finishes clean.

"Another smoke beer than BP hits outta the park. Much lighter in body and flavor than the Abandon Ship, but with similar smoke character. Very nice aroma and flavor. Not subtle, not too much...juuust right."

Draft. Poured hazy golden color with an average off-white frothy head that was mostly lasting with very good lacing. Moderate smoke and hop aroma. Medium to abundant body with a smooth texture and soft carbonation. Medium sweet smoke with a medium sweet finish of moderate duration. Good smoke beer.

Draft at Dutch’s. Pours a clear golden color with a medium sized white head. The aroma and flavor have more smoked malt than I expected from the appearance, yeast, meaty, with a hint of char bitterness to the finish, just a touch of some underlying fruity character, interesting brew for sure.

Draft to taster at Dutch’s. Looks solid; a transparent lighter gold with ample foamy white head. Smells solid too; a nice balance of lager yeast and smoke. Tastes like it smells with a mildly bittersweet backbone. Smooth but lively on the palate. This exceeded my expectations.

On tap at Dutch’s. Invoice read "Smoked Hellas" and I was excited because that’s a fantastic name for a lager, especially one from California. Seems like it was just a typo, though... Keg is labeled Smoke Screen. One of the first pours from the keg yields a golden color, mostly hazy with lots of fine particles in the body.. Thin off-white head with great retention, leaving excellent thicker lace. Awesome big savory smoke character in the flavor, reminds me of Aecht Schlenkerla’s helles. Bready doughy malt, very light pepperiness. Good crisp herbal hop on it. Medium-plus body, good full mouthfeel. Smooth, crisp lighter carbonation. Light slick texture. Very smooth and easy-drinking. Awesome crisp flavorful swiggable smoked helles. Hella good. Would probably be fantastic to wash a sandwich down with.

3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
White head, golden body. Faint hint of smoke. The mouth is a touch sweet and clearly malt driven, which is appropriate for the style. smoke is a bit too weak, but still very pleasant light drinkin beer that paired well with the Fish Tacos at Antenna America.

On draft at Tap 25. I love me some smoked beer! This one didn’t disappoint. It pours a lightly hazy yellow color with a small white head. The aroma is strong with campfire, wood, smoked meat and lightly kilned grains. The flavor is meaty with more smoke, campfire and noticeable background light malt. Really this has a perfect amount of smokiness to remind of smoked meat and campfire without being harsh or phenolic. You even get a little bit of the Helles base in there.. Theres a bit of bitterness near the finish that is a little weird for this kind of beer, but it doesn’t really detract from the experience. I really loved this one. One of the best smoked beers I’ve had from the States.
