Tap at the Davis Beer Shoppe. Pours reddish black (or purple?) with a slight pinkish head. Aroma of tart/sour berry - but some sweet aroma too. Near med body. Flavor is more tart than sour. Very berry. Goes quite astringent eventually. Tasty. Adventure: Mixed some 50/50 with the Berryessa Whippersnapper. Chocolate and blackberry = good!

3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
A: The pour is a dark crimson looking color with a huge pink tinted head that just wonít go away.
S: The nose offers up some blackberry, tannic fruit skins, some mild notes of grass, and a bit of oak.
T: The flavor is somewhat blunt. Certainly astringent and somewhat bitter, almost, with lots of fruit skin and seed flavor. A bit of blackberry and lemon juice tartness.
M: The body is light to medium with a somewhat soft, but plentiful, carbonation.
D: Of the sour Ballast Point beers, this is my least favorite. The fruit flavor is not really there and overall, itís somewhat abrasive and harsh.

2.7 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 10/20
2008 version. A beet red ale with a thin white head. In aroma, a light sour berry with light wooden notes. In mouth, a rather weak and dissapointing sour ale, with light cherries, a bit of epsom salt, chalkey notes, boring. On tap at Ballast Point 13 Anniv. Beer Festival , Oct. 24 2009.

Draft... RBSG Ď08... Lightly hazed red ale with a small, creamy, pink head. Decent retention. Earthy, mildly fruity nose. Light-bodied with Champagne-like carbonation. Stingy with the berries, but pretty darned sour with almost no residual sweetness. Finishes crisp and tart, and then dries out at the very end.

2.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 11/20
Tap at Neighborhood. Very odd fatty, fruity nose. A bit of light lactic character along with a bit of doughiness. Musty with notes of black currant and plum as well. A little bit of light spiciness on the finish but itís a pretty odd duck. I get the sense this will age into something quite different, but itís still a work in progress here. Tartness picks up as it begins to warm, but I still canít say Iím a fan.
