COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Sour Wench was a Home Brew Mart recipe that we made every year for the Southern California Home brewers Fest in Temecula. This Blackberry Ale was originally developed by Ballast Pointís original Master Brewer Peter AíHearn and Colby Chandler. While interning in Germany, Peter fell in love with the Berliner Weiss style of beer. A beer made with a procedure in which the mash was soured. The tartness of the Oregon State Marion Blackberries, at one pound per gallon, was a perfect addition for this sour style. Sour Wench is not aged in oak barrels. In the end, itís a great bridge beer into the Sour Styleís.

UPDATED: JUL 10, 2012 Draft at rattle. Pours a deep hazy purple red body with thin pink lacing. Aroma is light fruits. Mouthfeel is light but finishes dry with light fruit tart notes. Nearly completely different beer on draft. Sour fruit comes through much more, especially in the nose. +0.7

4 oz pour on draft at ChurchKey. Dark ruby brown with beige head. Aromas of raspberries and berries. Tastes of berry jam, tart raspberries, tart acidic notes. Medium-light body with a dry finish. Very tasty.

Is strong pink and purple appearance. Some sourness in the aroma. The flavor is somewhat sour but the blackberries make it quite sweet as well. Overall it matches the style but I just donít like it all that much

Tap.looks like grape juice. Smells like someone vomited in my glass. Light acidic sour at 1st, then the vomit note, then a berry. Finish is cherry pop tart like.

On tap at Lompoc. Pours a purple color with a small white head. A big woody sour fruit nose. The flavor is light sweet berries, oak, sourness, sawdust. A pretty mellow beer, but quite good. Very sour at times but not acidic.

Pour on tap at Northern Lights Rare Beer Fest, dark reddish purple pour with pink head, aroma brought notes of big blackberry, some biscuit, vanilla into a bit of raspberry, slight lemony tartness, hints of oak. Taste was a mix of funk, earth, oak into some blackberry, cherry notes with a hint of vanilla, finishing slightly tart, slightly dry.

March 28, 2015 - taster pour at the Rare Beer Fest in St. Paul. Purple pour with pink head. Not bad for the style, but the appearance was the best part for me.
