Draught at Ballast Point Old Grove, San Diego. All black beer with a very nice lasting beige head. Hoppy roasted aroma, wort, licorice, chocolate, some grapes. Hoppy roasted flavor, grassy, floral, dark chocolate, hay notes. A bit odd.

[Tap] Pours a very dark brown color. Pinecone and good amount of roasty malt in the aroma. Toffee, molasses, milk chocolate and citrus hops in the taste. Kinda odd with the yeast choice, but not too bad. Tasting notes from 2/2014.

Dark hazy brown, good head. Smells grainy... and even chemy. Tastes like chalky cocoa and malt with a medium body. Blah!

On tap@ Pinthouse Pizza. The aroma is surprisingly floral and hoppy with very little malt. It settles to a nice lacy foam. The flavor is well balanced on the verge of limited, but the aroma makes up for it. For a lager this is a great beer.

On tap at brewery. Black with a thin creamy off white head. Roasted grain and light citrus aroma. Tastes of roasted grain, drip coffee, and bitter citrus with a nice smooth finish and a chewy palate.

Tap at Congregation in Azusa. Pours deep black with sheets of tan lace. Nose is hoppy, piney, almost Black IPA like with resin and flashes of savory meat. Taste is clean, mild hop resin, small Black IPA expression with cocoa, bitter needles, roast. Super light, refreshing mouthfeel. Really fantastic whatever this is!

Sampler at Old Grove. Ours near black with a creamy espresso head. Aroma is roast, some citrus. Taste is semi sweet with some bitterness. Tastes more like a black IPA without the heavy hop bitterness. Dry finish.
