COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Inspired by the hoppier West Coast BarleyWines in the late ’80s and early ’90s. This American Barley Wine is full of rich roasted caramel flavors and the spice and aroma from many hop additions. Eighty Lovibond Crystal Malt helps create a light mahogany color and dry hopping with Cascade Hops add to the many layers of flavors in this ever-evolving ale. When Three Sheets Barley Wine is fresh, it almost leans into the Double/Imperial Red category. Cellar it for a year, expect the taste of the hop bitterness and hop aroma to back off and the rich melanoidin sugars, from a two hour boil, step forward caressing you with a complex malty smoothness.

Deep red and brown with a thin head. Smells like brown sugar and raisins. Alcohol presence is very noticeable. Sweet with toffee, raisins, and candied caramel. Finish lingers. Good and hot.

Leftover from BW fest at Toronado. Pours with a fairly dark color. Did not like this at all, very medicinal and boozy tasting seemed way off. Maybe the keg had a problem.

Pours a murky dark amber with a one finger tan head which fades to nice lacing. Aroma is of toasted sweet malts, burnt caramel, molasses, and dark fruits. Taste is similar to the aroma but has some nice medium hops and nice piney notes. Has a medium-full body with a creamy mouthfeel and a semi bitter, medium long finish. Overall, a tasty barley wine that hides its ABV very well.

Pours a copper brown with a light taupe head. It has a caramel and grapefruit nose. Caramel and chocolate flavors with some cherry and citrusy notes. The finish is sweet despite the competing esters. The mouthfeel is perfect for the style. It accentuates the flavors and bouquet perfectly.

Draft at BOP - early Dec 05 tasting. 1 year old vintage. Cherry-wood brown and somewhat hazy. Very rich toffee carmel malt aromas and some citrusy hop notes and some fruits. Rich carmel malt flavors, sweet toffee, more fruits - specifically notes of raisins, and a touch of of citrus hops. Touch earthy.

You should have seen me the night I drank a whole growler of this stuff. I could have used a skid lid for my dome that night. Anyway, this is exceptional barley wine that actually tastes better if you don’t age it. I don’t like my barley wine too sweet and if you get this stuff when it’s new, you get barley wine backed with a superb hop backbone. They don’t fill the growler with this anymore, which will ultimately play a big part in saving my life.

On tap at ballast point. Pours dark reddish brown with a small off white head. Aroma is mostly citrusy hops and burnt caramel. Flavor is caramel, smooth bitterness, and a lot of citrus. Palate is full, good carbonation and resinous.

On tap at Ballast Point. Pours deep reddish brown. Nose has a lot of good sweet red fruit and inviting malt character. Taste is very clean, smooth and sweet with a candy component and some spice undertones. Very nice barley wine.

The beer poured a brownish red color w/ orange hues; thin lasting head and lacing. The aroma had caramel, dark fruit, slight citrus, and plum/raisin notes. The flavor had dark fruit, caramel, malts, slight citrus and hop notes. The mouthfeel was medium bodied, and creamy w/ a dry finish.
