10 year blend on tap at the 10th Annual San Diego Strong Ale Festival: Transparent bright copper color with a frothy, light tan head. Complex sweet toasty caramel aroma has some light fruity complexity and grapefruity hops. Body starts sweet, viscous and caramely fruity with some cherry and strawberry flavor toward a crisp, warming bittersweet finish. Good complexity and seems to have aged quite well.

1 year old barch sampled at the brewery on 11/30/06: Pours a transparent dark copper amber with a nicely-lacing light tan head. Sweet, fresh big grapefruity hoppy aroma has nice caramel malty backing. Body starts viscous and caramely sweet with good fresh piny hoppy bitterness and complexity toward a warming, resiny sticky finish.

On tap at Good Beer. Pretty hoppy finish on this barley wine. Mild aroma. Molasses sweetness to start, then moving to a more bitter hop taste. Good, but not really exciting.

Excellent. Tons of caramel molasses flavor. What a good beer. On the sweet side, but I drank this down until I was too wasted, to the chagrin of many, but it happens sometimes.

Taster at urge gastropub. Looks like dark red amber. Smells a little bitter and thick. Tastes at first like a strong hefe, then an ipa, then like a high profile barley wine. Delicious overall 8 of 10.

A: The pour is dark amber in color with a creamy khaki head. S: As expected for a barleywine, a malty nose with some caramel and toffee along with a light hoppiness. The hops give a definite perfume character and somewhat of a floral note. Some booze on the finish. T: A slightly more fruity hop character with a touch of pineapple, which lasts all the way through the sip. Plenty of toast and just a mild roast and bitterness. The hops give their same perfume notes and there is certainly some booze. Perhaps a touch of dark chocolate and citrus peel. M: This is certainly full in body with a medium carbonation. O: I had wanted to try this beer for quite awhile, but it didn’t really live up to expectations. Sort of stuck in the middle between a hoppy barleywine and a sweet one.

Dark brown red color with a small, off white head that left nice lacing on the glass. Aroma of dark fruits, caramel malts, vanilla, citrus, wood, nuts, and alcohol. Taste of much of the same, with citrus being more pronounced, oxidation, and an alcohol burn in the finish.

Tap at CAH. Pours a hazy deeper brown with amber notes and a medium creamy off white head. Aroma was rich and complex. Dark fruits, toffee, caramel, nuts, port qualities and woody notes. Flavor of tge same complex notes, loads of dark fruits. Excellent barleywine, perfect base beer to barrel age.

The aroma is sweet and malty. The color is dark ruby black with a tan white head. The flavor of sharp sweet thick malts like in any barleywine.

A damn fine beer, I would drink it until my liver gave way. Nothing offensive at all, just beer bliss. My favorite of all the 3 sheets variations, very hoppy, bold, sweet, bitter, really a complex beer that i think is at its peak right off the bat.
