COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Inspired by the hoppier West Coast BarleyWines in the late ’80s and early ’90s. This American Barley Wine is full of rich roasted caramel flavors and the spice and aroma from many hop additions. Eighty Lovibond Crystal Malt helps create a light mahogany color and dry hopping with Cascade Hops add to the many layers of flavors in this ever-evolving ale. When Three Sheets Barley Wine is fresh, it almost leans into the Double/Imperial Red category. Cellar it for a year, expect the taste of the hop bitterness and hop aroma to back off and the rich melanoidin sugars, from a two hour boil, step forward caressing you with a complex malty smoothness.

Tap @ O’Briens. Cloudy brown with a short tan head. Dank, oaky, caramel, earthy malt aroma with a fair amount of grapefruit and pine tar. Excellent taste that seems to swirl resin, dates, figs, caramel, oak, and alcohol in your mouth. There is a constant earth overtone that stays with you throughout that is very nice.

On tap. An unclear dark orange brown beer with a small, light beige head. Some curtains. The aroma has some alcohol, dried fruits and green pine cones, as well as caramel and a roasted touch. It’s full bodied and lightly warning, softly carbonated. The flavor has a nice bitterness, with a little bit alcohol, some caramel and pine cones. Lasting warning finish with bitterness, sweetness and a fruity touch. A nice barley wine, although not as complex as the best. 130821

Little to no head, but there’s sone streaky lace. Dark brown where light shines through. Darker malt aroma. Not really toasted or chocolate, but true to style. The flavor is high in alcohol, dark malt (without toast or chocolate), and mild hop. Strong alcohol swallow.

2/19/05. On tap at Toronado Barleywine Festival ’04 in San Francisco, CA 2/19/05. Glossy clear, dark red-orange amber. Very good appearance with a lingering tan head. Good lacing that sticks lightly and a tidal wave of fast reverse lacing. Nose is very freshly hoppy, almost green, and nicley balanced to a red-amber "Hop Whompus"-like hop medley and malt tickle. Sweet and inviting with floral nectar richness. Too much carbonation foam feeling, not much flavor. Plain brittle bitterness and low malt backing. Very dry finish that picks up some of the slack, brightly bitter with a little grass and some dead leaves. Very disappointing after a promising start.
