Prepare to walk the plank to an Ale of overwhelming proportions. More hops & more malts than any land lubber can handle. After this experience...your tongue will be buckled. The I.B.U.’s (International Bitterness Units) are off the scale on this ale. Be forewarned, those with a timid palate, this is not a wee beer! Handcrafted in small batches for those sailing the seas in search of great ales.

Draft at The Beer Authority in Seattle. Dark ruddy brown, tall thick foam. Strong, deep pine hops. Rich alc and sharp body. Heavy hop acids and rich alc over tart red malt. Sharp, tasty beer with sharp bitter aftertaste. Very very tasty.

Heavy malty aroma, strong cereal with a hoppy backbone. Pours clear copper with a white head. Awesome flavor, super malty balanced with strong hops and a long bitter finish.

On tap poured into a 4 oz sampler. There’s an aroma of rye bread and grain that appears to be the most prevalent, accompanied by a lighter toffee note (perhaps even a light cheese). It pours a deep caramel amber color with a light cloudy head with a decent lace. This hits a really nice balance between sweet and bitter - sweetness at about a medium level, and the bitter at a medium-high level. The bitter really comes off as mellow and smooth, and not really in your face. The body is medium, medium-full, but the texture is thin, and slick with an average amount of carbonation. It’s starts out with a bit of a berry and caramel sweetness which then gives way to a burnt rye finish with some other grassy notes and a somewhat mild aftertaste.

Bottle @ home. Pours amber with small head. Aroma is caramel, toffee and very hoppy. Flavor is tangy, piney, resiny and some caramel malt. Very nicely done to hide the alcohol content

Appearance: Deep red, decent head. Smell: Not a lot in the nose. Taste: Sweet and malty. Some toffee. Much more intense flavor than I would have guessed from the aroma. Fairly boozy. Mouthfeel: Medium-ish body. Drinkability: Solid. A bit heavy handed on the maltiness. Not a favorite.

This beer is absolutely enjoyable Ballast Point does not disappoint .They make many delicious brews and I’d say this one falls in their top ten . Its an Imperial Red Ale with lots of hop flavors a spruce scent with a very mellow smooth finish and a nice reddish auburn color. This one is a must!! Cheers!!!

Pours a dark red . Aroma is very sweet with a little hop aroma. However the flavor blasts with hops and very bitter which lasts. Fantastic strong ale.

Clear red. Big piney aroma. Flavor big and piney with evident abv. Sweet medium colored malts. Some hints of mid color crystal maybe. Better as it warms and loses some carbo.
