Prepare to walk the plank to an Ale of overwhelming proportions. More hops & more malts than any land lubber can handle. After this experience...your tongue will be buckled. The I.B.U.’s (International Bitterness Units) are off the scale on this ale. Be forewarned, those with a timid palate, this is not a wee beer! Handcrafted in small batches for those sailing the seas in search of great ales.

Tongue torturing imperial red ale. Has a clean dark red look, piney, citrus hop aroma and some malty sweetness. Compared to its high alcohol, very drinkable and hardly feel any booziness. The bitter is very strong, but it’s not harsh, rather enjoyable.

Pours an amber brown, like pekoe iced tea. Sudsy head hangs around for a while. The aroma is very mild, but there are notes of brown sugar on the nose. The flavor is much stronger than the aroma gives away. There’s molasses and rich, woody, whiskey-like malt. Strong hops on the back of the tongue, but the finish is really clean. This is an aggressive, tasty beer.

On tap. Pours a dark reddish copper color with moderate head. Aromas of red fruit gummies and sweet malts. Flavors of red berry jelly, bitter pine, toffee and toasted bread crusts. Long bitter finish.

Bomber poured hazy red copper with a thick off-white head and nice lacing. Aromas of citrus, dark fruit, raisens, and malt. Flavor is bitter and boozy.

Bottle. Aroma of candied pineapple, pine, flowers and grass. Tastes mildly sweet and moderately bitter. Big flowers and tropical fruit, some caramel and toast, pine needle finish. Dry finish. Solid.

On tap at crappy bar. Dark red color. Caramel nose. Strong strong red flavors. Dry finish. Definitely not for me. Very cough medicine like. Not a big fan.

Aroma is tropical fruit, pine, juicy and very nice. Appearance is red, pink to off white head. Taste is malt, pine, tropical fruit, juicy, bitter finish. Mouthfeel is medium body with a crisp carbonation and lingering aftertaste. Overall, another fine offering from Ballast Point.

@ Brewdog in Leeds. Tasty imperial red, but a little too bitter. Fair and likable.

Pour on tap at HopCat, clear dark red pour with slightly off white head, aroma brought notes of caramel, orange, grass, pine, some slight spice, touch of old hop notes. Taste was a mix of booze, bitter pine, some slight fruit, spice, caramel, finishing fairly bitter.

Tap. Pours a dark amber with a small tan head. The bitterness in the aroma hits straight away with pine and malts. Flavour is very bitter with some orange and pine hops. Not a bad beer but just wasn’t really for me.
