Prepare to walk the plank to an Ale of overwhelming proportions. More hops & more malts than any land lubber can handle. After this experience...your tongue will be buckled. The I.B.U.s (International Bitterness Units) are off the scale on this ale. Be forewarned, those with a timid palate, this is not a wee beer! Handcrafted in small batches for those sailing the seas in search of great ales.

Bomber. Pours a slightly hazy, deep copper, fluffy white head, outstanding retention and ridiculous lacing. Nose is tropical fruit (heavy pineapple), pine and some malt underneath. Mouth is full-bodied and bittersweet up front, chewy citrus and tropical notes riding a malt backbone and almost oaky, bitterness prevails and runs through a gamut of fruit then some ABV warmth going down with a long hoppy finish. Really nice Imperial Red.

Nearly clear old copper color with a 1 finger, creamy beige head that has good retention and leaves some lacing. Aroma is big on resinous and deep citrus hops, some earthiness, lots of dark caramel, a little toffee and some booziness on a big whiff. Flavor has a big fruity sweetness up front, dark caramel, toffee, earthy tea, woody notes, lots of pine and a little burnt citrus. Pretty heavy, chewy palate, fairly light, but sharp and blanketing carbonation, slightly astringent, somewhat boozy finish. Pretty good stuff, a little on the thick and heavy side after a hot and muggy summer day, but on my porch on a cool fall night with a nice cigar, maybe after a big, rich slab of beef it would be heavenly.

Hazed red with orange hue. Light head, slight lace. Aromas of dark caramel.Piney, toasted marshmello. Taste is carmelly, malty, piney, slick smooth, strong, holla. I love red ipas. this reminds me why I like them so much. Probably my favorate style, and this is a good one.Nice strong but smooth piney finish. Alot of good taste in this here beer. It fits in somewhere betwix a barley wine/strong ale and ipa. Its very nice.

Poured from a bottle, San Diego. Fierce, cruel aroma. I instantly knew this beer would be gangster without taking a sip. Powerful aroma of strong piney, floral hops. Looks pretty unmerciful, with a strong, white head and a deep reddish-brown body. The taste is hoppy alright.

Bottle pours nice red color with thin white head. Aroma pine hops. Taste a bit of malts with pine hops. Finish pine and resin hops. Interesting full palate with nice tingle from hops, carbonation and alcohol.

About what youd expect from something called Tongue Buckler. Too one dimensional for my taste but if you want a bunch of hops here you go.

Bottle Poured into glass. Red Amber pour with an off white head that laces nicely on its way down. Aroma is grass and pine hops. Definitely heavy on that profile. Taste is bitter for sure. Intense resiny pine hop bitterness with a sweet malt backbone that fights to stick around but is quickly overtaken by bitter hops on the long finish. buckler indeed.

22 ounce bottle. Its a rough ride on the tongue buckler. Heavy malt, phenol and sweet scotch ale-ish aroma. Really good looking dark color with bubbles streaming up to durable layer of foam. Taste is biting and the opposite of easy-drinking. It lives up to its name. Boozy, malt-driven, metallic, and a bit soapy. Palate is medium bodied and fairly fizzy. Overall, Id pass on having this one again because its such a mustang of a beer. My atmospheric opinion of Ballast Point is now, temporarily at least, grounded.

Abrasive hop bitterness without a complex balancing malt profile. Still the flavor is enjoyable and the alcohol is well hidden. Decent but unremarkable. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Excellent hoppy red ale from Ballast Point. This beer is rare so Im glad I found this bomber! Its a monster, and the taste lingers long after the sip. Well rounded with a nice alcohol kick.
