Prepare to walk the plank to an Ale of overwhelming proportions. More hops & more malts than any land lubber can handle. After this experience...your tongue will be buckled. The I.B.U.’s (International Bitterness Units) are off the scale on this ale. Be forewarned, those with a timid palate, this is not a wee beer! Handcrafted in small batches for those sailing the seas in search of great ales.

Bottle Poured into glass. Red Amber pour with an off white head that laces nicely on its way down. Aroma is grass and pine hops. Definitely heavy on that profile. Taste is bitter for sure. Intense resiny pine hop bitterness with a sweet malt backbone that fights to stick around but is quickly overtaken by bitter hops on the long finish. buckler indeed.

22 ounce bottle. It’s a rough ride on the tongue buckler. Heavy malt, phenol and sweet scotch ale-ish aroma. Really good looking dark color with bubbles streaming up to durable layer of foam. Taste is biting and the opposite of easy-drinking. It lives up to its name. Boozy, malt-driven, metallic, and a bit soapy. Palate is medium bodied and fairly fizzy. Overall, I’d pass on having this one again because it’s such a mustang of a beer. My atmospheric opinion of Ballast Point is now, temporarily at least, grounded.

Abrasive hop bitterness without a complex balancing malt profile. Still the flavor is enjoyable and the alcohol is well hidden. Decent but unremarkable. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Excellent hoppy red ale from Ballast Point. This beer is rare so I’m glad I found this bomber! It’s a monster, and the taste lingers long after the sip. Well rounded with a nice alcohol kick.

Draft at blue monk, deeper amber pour, light head. Fresh piney resiny hop aroma, caramel malts. Big bitterness, strong, boozy, malty backbone takes a seat to big hops. Active full mouthfeel. Aggressive but balanced. Good

Bottle. The pour is a hazy bright red. The aroma is mostly hops. The taste is a little boozy throughout. Finishes a little too much for me. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle shared by DalzAle, thanks Greg! Pours a nice amber, tons of caramel and hops on the nose. Flavor is bitter hops--Pitney and resiny, with great malts. Strong enough where you can taste the booziness but its not.overpowering and is incredibly well done.
