Prepare to walk the plank to an Ale of overwhelming proportions. More hops & more malts than any land lubber can handle. After this experience...your tongue will be buckled. The I.B.U.’s (International Bitterness Units) are off the scale on this ale. Be forewarned, those with a timid palate, this is not a wee beer! Handcrafted in small batches for those sailing the seas in search of great ales.

A dark mahogany red ale with a thin mocha head. In aroma, a smooth pungent and meaty and floral hops with treacle notes. In mouth, a beautiful vinous malt, nice and smooth, with floral and resinous hops, very nice, doesn’t buckle your tongue, it makes love to it. On tap at Barcade Brooklyn, Dec. 30 2011.

22 oz. bottle, pours a cloudy dark amber with a small off-white head. Aroma is well-balanced between intense caramel malts and resinous hops. Flavour is quite robust, with loads of resinous hops upfront, balanced by just enough caramel malts. Intensely hopped, but tastefully done. Robust and extreme imperial red ale. Excellent.

Bottle at JW77’s. Damn this is HOPPY. Holy crap. Reddish pour. Off white head. Aroma is full of harsh citrus hops and christmas tree resin. Flavor is just too damn hoppy. Tons of grapefuit peel, bitter resin and some light malt. Wow hopheads rejoice.

22oz bottle acquired in trade with WeeHeavyHD (thanks!). This one initially poured all head. Settled into a medium to deeper orange color. Aromas of pine, toasty, caramel, and citrus. Tastes of citrus, caramel, a little fruity, pine and floralness. Tastes definitely nice and hoppy but also had a nice balance. Medium alcohol burn in the finish. Lacing left on the glass. Piney hoppy burps.

Bottle… Clear, deep amber ale with a small, creamy, off-white head. Decent retention. The aroma is a wonderful swirl of pine, caramel and toffee… I mean, lots of caramel and toffee. Full-bodied with barbed carbonation. The flavor is just a ton of earthy, citrusy hop bitterness layered upon huge toffee and caramel malt sweetness. Very malty; very hoppy… almost balances out. Lengthy, bitter, coarse finish that eventually dries out. Bottle provided by WeeHeavySD!

A very nice red ale, dk why I always forget to rate my ballast point beers. Hoppy, not quite a tongue buckler but close.

Sample on Day 2 of the Aces & Ales Strong Beer Festival on 08/13/2011. This brew pours a dark copper color with a medium off-white head that diminishes steadily. Rings of lacing on the glass. Aroma of citrusy hops and toasted malt. Medium body with a moderately bitter hops character that has grass and citrus notes. Sweet malt undertones. The finish is grassy and resiny hops with a lasting bitterness. Good beer overall.
