Prepare to walk the plank to an Ale of overwhelming proportions. More hops & more malts than any land lubber can handle. After this experience...your tongue will be buckled. The I.B.U.ís (International Bitterness Units) are off the scale on this ale. Be forewarned, those with a timid palate, this is not a wee beer! Handcrafted in small batches for those sailing the seas in search of great ales.

Brown/Copper and hazy on the pour. Caramel and light sweet aromas from the pour. The drink is intensely full bodied with a combination of malty, sweet and alcohol flavors all in one punch. Slight bitterness on the after taste. Not my favorite but somehow i found myself going back to it.

Tap. Pours a dark amber with a small tan head. The bitterness in the aroma hits straight away with pine and malts. Flavour is very bitter with some orange and pine hops. Not a bad beer but just wasnít really for me.

Keg at brewdog bar, Sheffield. Dark red with no head. Aroma is resiny rich. Taste is bitter and syrupy, really lingers on the tongue. Mouthfeel is strange, maybe a bit too cold, quite full bodied and oily. OK stuff.

Pours deep red/orange. Nice dark fruit flavours similar to a strong Belgium beer, not too much dry after taste that i can feel. I drink too many IPAís though..

On Draught
Pours a deep orange color with a good head and nice lacing on the glass.

The atom aid big on toffee and sweetness, itís got licorice, itís got caramel... itís got a generally muddled but very prevalent hop character.

The flavor picks up where the aroma left off, big and sweet with lots of alcohol spiciness. Itís big on bitterness, itís big on caramel, itís big on those two things clashing.... The hop character isnít all together bad sort of spicy sort of fruit forward. Licorice, toffee, malt, malt, malt, hops, hops, hops.
This does not restore my faith in Imperial Red Ale, and I donít know that there is a beer that ever could... not my thing at all. The whole category just seems to be about an onslaught of FLAVORS! and throwing substance to the wind.
That said, if this is the sort of thing you like, Ballast Point did a fine job of presenting this style for what it is worth.

Keg taster @ Brewdog, Leeds. Has a strength, but not too sweet, nor too bitter in my opinion.

Pours a cloudy amber but Has excellent head retention and lacing. Smells sweet and malty with some honey in there. Tastes very malty and sweet, just like an imperial red does. Very good, but not crazy good.

This was poured into a snifter. The appearance was a dark red color with a one finger white foamy head. A moderate amount of lacing stuck to the glass nicely. The smell started off with some sweet caramel malts running into subtle tobacco notes. The taste had the dried out tobacco-esque flavors blending into the caramel malts. Subtle breadiness seeks a nice balance in this. Thereís a quick dried caramel aftertaste. On the palate, this one sat about a medium on the body with a decent sessionability about it. Carbonation runs nice for the style and for me. Overall, I liked it for me as I didnít mind the extra "tobacco" flavors that came out. I could see myself having this again.

Keg at BD Camden tap takeover, London. It pours a lightly hazed rich golden / copper color with large tan head. Aroma is sweet malts, dark fruits, brown sugar, toffee. Taste has more big sweet malts and some bitter resinous hops and roasted malts. Full bodied with good carbonation. Overall, tasty and bold
