Prepare to walk the plank to an Ale of overwhelming proportions. More hops & more malts than any land lubber can handle. After this experience...your tongue will be buckled. The I.B.U.’s (International Bitterness Units) are off the scale on this ale. Be forewarned, those with a timid palate, this is not a wee beer! Handcrafted in small batches for those sailing the seas in search of great ales.

Just another great addition from another great brewery. The Tongue Buckler kind of comes off as a Barleywine, what with it’s murky brown body and pillowy tan head. The body is full but kind of grainy. Heavy flavors of bitter hops strike their pose on a playful runway of caramel malts. It seems a bit toned down, like a pirate with a dull scabre, but this beer is a solid. Very solid.

Hazed murky brown lacing grey head. Smells of prunes and booze and brown sugar. Bitter little fucker. Raisin, booze, cinnamon, and grapefruit. Not what I expected from an impy red. Wonder if I got the barley wine?

APPEARANCE - beautiful dark amber color - totally comes through as a red. Head runs for the hills, but the lacing has real persistence. NOSE - west coast hops dominate the nose of this beauty. FLAVOR - thick resin notes stay on my tongue long after the sip. Exceptionally flavorful. NOTES - as expected, ballast point delivers.

On tap at Carpool in Herndon, VA. Clear, medium rusty brown with a khaki head and excellent lacing. Aroma of pine, pineapple, mango, orange and leaf mould. Taste of pineapple, resin, sweet orange, grapefruit, mango and sweet bready malt. Medium/full body and medium carbonation. Sweet, bitter and delicious. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

From bomber to tulip glass. Perfume and pine forest dominate, and the dankness shows more as it warmed. Clear amber, with a slight brown hue, and a head the is off-white or very light beige. Taste is pine - like eating a handful of evergreen tips. Moderate high bitterness - but not massively so as advertised. Moderate low chewy biscuit from both the bittering and malt support. Finishes moderately dry for all of the alcohol. Alcohol really starts to show on the aroma as it warmed.

From a 22 oz bottle. Pours a clear copper with a thick off white head. Nutty nose. Flavors of citrus and pine. Bitter finish. Tasty.

2015-03-14. Dark amber body with a nice foamy beige head. 3+ Moderate aroma, hoppy. Light fruit and vegetation. Flavour is fairly bitter, a bit rough actually. Green hop character lingers long into the finish. Average bodied palate, good carbonation. Okay, sort of rough hop character overall. Bottle shared at beerhugger’s tasting.

Sharp citrusy grapefruit aroma. Clear rust, thick firm yellow head. Grapefruit, maraschino cherries. Licorice and subtle pine needle at midpalate. Copper penny finish. Full body, easy carbonation, alcohol is quite noticeable, resinous. Nice complexity, good transitions, healthy malt backbone to support the outrageous hoppiness. Probably a very good example of what this style strives to be, but I found it a little much. As a wheat beer fan, 107 IBUs and 10% isn’t what I’m looking for.
