4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20
Served on tap at the Linda Vista location during SDBW 2011. The appearance is a deep red-brown with some good bubbles. The flavors and aromas are sweet malts, caramel, cinnamon, chocolate, and citrus hops. The bourbon barrel aging comes through with a bit of an oak edge and light booze additions. The mouth is well carbonated. A great merging of the two beers. This would be a nice one to bottle.

3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
Dark brown with a fizzy white head. Chocolate caramel and bourbon aroma and taste with an astringent cherry cough syrup like taste to the finish. Not so good.

Taster on tap at BP Linda Vista: Black with a wisp of dark beige foam. Flavor starts burnt malts and bourbon followed by dark chocolate, licorice and some citrus hops in the finish. Full body is rich and smooth with soft carbonation.

Taster at the home brew mart. Smells like bourbon and love. Great blend. Sharp and smooth. Lovely. Top notch stuff.

4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
On tap at the Scripps Ranch brewery. I failed to jot down the ABV for this, but both base beers clock in at 10%. Pours a very dark brown with good layer of dark beige foam. Aroma is a little strange but interesting...some sticky fruity hops but also very earthy dark malts and boozy barrel notes. The flavor is nicely complex with prickly hoppiness up front followed by rich malty tones (fudge, cocoa powder, lightly burnt malts). The bourbon barrel comes in late but lingers very nicely through the finish with notes of rich toffee, vanilla, bourbon, and alcohol. This leans a bit more towards being a bourbon barrel aged stout in character (rather than a hoppy blend)...but I think it works well. (1, 578)
