Pours dark with a tan head. Right off the bat, there are chocolate sweet roast aromas. Full bodied flavors with a very distinct vanilla flavor throughout the drink. Amazing!

Very attractive pour and aroma. Black body and tan head aroma dominated by cocoa nibs and coffee. Flavor is a little too much alcohol burn and until it gets to room temp thats all you get. Vanilla shows through and i think bourbon barrel but probably because of the higher alcohol.
3.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 TimsRatings (80) - - MAR 29, 2013
On tap at Raleigh Times.
Sweeeeet...very sweet. The vanilla really comes out in this beer - a bit too strong got my tastes.
Beautiful dark appearance with little head.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 NeuroPliny (36) - Calgary, Alberta, CANADA - MAR 24, 2013
On tap at the brewery in San Diego. Served in a tulip glass. Rich creamy brown head over blackness. Coffee, molasses, and hazelnut on the nose.
More bitter hoppy notes than the aroma would suggest giving it a nice surprise. This screams coffee and vanilla throughout but it is well balanced with dry hoppy bitterness. Great imperial porter in its greater than expected complexity.
4.4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20 dreadp (13) - toronto, Ontario, CANADA - MAR 23, 2013
Shared a big bottle with Alden down in Dallas (cheers bud!). I do get this beer...HUGE coffee/chocolate/mocha nose and taste with the vanilla arriving afterwards. Make sure you enjoy this one cool; too cold and you’re robbing yourself of the full delicious experience. Boozy; yes, but not overpowering. I initially thought it about 8% ABV, not the 10% it actually is. This brew ruined my palate...don’t think I can go back to enjoying the Fuller’s London Porter like I once did! And...we found this brew in the grocery store!
3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 neuromatt (858) - Toronto, Ontario, CANADA - MAR 23, 2013
On tap at the brewery in San Diego, served in a tulip. Pours deep chestnut with a moderate, rocky tan head that mostly remains and leaves a small amount of fine lace. On the nose there are big notes of coffee and roasted malts, along with a touch of smoke and a hint of chocolate. The flavour is assertive, but well balanced between medium-sweet with roasted malts and moderate coffee and hop bitterness. The finish is long and roasty with coffee and resinous hops. On the palate, it is medium-full in body with a dryish texture and soft carbonation. Overall, this is a very nice imperial porter; it is complex and roasty, but has a nice blend of assertive hops. 2013-03-22

best by 11/8/13 bottle (assume 11/8/12 bottling?) pour into tulip glass. this thing is basically vanilla. dont sense much of the coffee. has a sour sweet balt finish to it. rather thin on the palate. I dont see the big deal about this one.

On tap at the Amsterdam Cafe in San Francisco. Great bubbly cream head over a black beer. Tastes like a choclate liquor, rich and boozy. Has a hint of coffee maltiness to it too. Chocolate and nut aroma. Good stuff but has to be sipped.
3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 Sperine (138) - North Wales, Pennsylvania, USA - MAR 17, 2013
Bottle. Definitely one of the better porters I've had (usually don't fall in love with porters). The vanilla comes through and the beer has a great mouthfeel. Would love to have it on tap somewhere to improve the experience. Ballast Point impresses again. Can't wait to visit the brewery in SD this fall.

This beer pours black with a tan colored, well retained head. Aromas of chocolate, vanilla and alcohol. Beer tastes sweet with a big vanilla flavor. Finish is dry. Alcohol is a bit hot, IMO. Otherwise an enjoyalbe beer.
